Twists:

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:32 pm

What do you guys think of any possible twists or turns in the plot? The one thing in Elder Scrolls games that seems re-ocurring is the lack of these, though this is probably a good thing. And don't get me wrong here, I don't mean something like getting to Alduin and having this happen.
Spoiler
Alduin: Dovakhiin, the Graybeards never told you about your father...
You: They told me enough! They told me you killed him!
Alduin: No, Dovakhiin... I am your father!
You: No... No! That's impossible!
Alduin: Search your feelings! You know it be true!

I mean like something else un-expected coming up... perhaps a second Greymarch upon Tamriel? Perhaps an invasion from Akavir?

I was reading up on the Imperial Library out of boredom, and I eventually came to the Akavir section, which reminded me of Mysterious Akavir, and of course, Tosh Raka. Something just sort of clicked in my head then: Tosh Raka apparently became a dragon, correct? Skyrim is basically the first Elder Scrolls game to really do Dragons. Furthermore, it was stated in Mysterious Akavir that he intended to first conquer the Tsaesci, then invade Tamriel. See where I'm going with this? It's been two hundred years; if he had intentions to conquer them I think he would've acted by now. And again, this would coincidently coinside with the fact that this game is, of course, going to focus (We assume) upon Dragons. So, really, this is a just a theroy of mine that after Alduin is defeated, Tosh Raka (And maybe an army of NPC modified Khajiits) shows up and you may get to fight an unexpected true final boss.

This is of course just a possible theroy of mine, but this thread is just to see what you guys think about any possible twists or turns within the story of Skyrim... so, discuss!

In the Shivering Isles,
Spoiler
Sheogorath being Jyggalag was a pretty big plot twist.

But yeah, I kinda feel like I already know how the main quest for Skyrim is going to go. The end of the world is coming and I'm a Dragonborn and I'm going to prevent it from happening. I'm fine with that, if it happens. I'm not playing the game for a crazy plot twist. I really like plot twists though, they're one of my favorite things in stories (if they're subtle enough and unexpected.) I would like to see more in TES.

I voted for Unlikely and 'twist' being the civil war taking center place. I doubt the majority of the MQ will be dragon related, more so the later parts leading to the finale. ^_^

Another twist might be... Tosh Raka (who I know nothing other save what OP mentioned) died and is reincarnated... in you GASP! Thus the player shall gain the IWIN power, shapeshifting into a dragon and set of the conquer the lands. :celebration:

I guess I also like the fact that we know what we're doing, but on the other hand I don't. What I mean is, since we already know how it's going to go down, that doesn't really make the story very enjoyable. Because nothing will surprise us. I mean, I think one of the reasons I found Oblivions plot so dull was that it was just SO predictable. But, as I said, plot twists can ruin something too... usually, the ones that are predictable anyways. Ever seen Shutter Island? Soon as he kicked down the first door I called how it was going to end, and that's exactly how it did. That movie would've been atleast 2 times better without that predictable "twist".

So, I guess it all depends on any possible execution on Bethesda's part.

^ Yep. You've got it there Serella. Thusly, Alduin is not your father... he is your COUSIN!

I do feel like there will be a plot twist of some form in this game. Its bound to happen in some way or another during the story.

not to shoot your theory down, OP, it has just been talked about a lot, especially since the cover release.

i think it would be better for a future game, unless they have had enough time to add it in, and i want that to happen. i just think that it would deserve its own game, not just as a twist in the 2nd half of the main quest/last 1/4 of the main quest.

about the polls, i voted other on the 2nd one bc iv heard (don't remember from where) it being hinted that the dwemer aren't all dead, and that many were on the outskirts of tamriel and in other places in nirn when they disappeared. So i wouldn't be too surprised to run into a couple somewhere in the main quest. what with all of the dwemer ruins around.

It's also been hinted that a full fledged dwemer comeback won't be in this game, but will be used in a game of its own.

Possible and Plausible basically mean the same thing just so you know.

I voted possible and Akavir Invasion is what I picked.

I'm betting Esbren:

  • Dies trying to save you
  • Is your Father
  • Betrays you
  • Is the Grey Fox
  • Is a Ghost
  • Live Happily Every After

I certainly hope there will be a few plot twists.

It sounds like discovering that you are Dragonborn is supposed to be a pretty major plot twist, except for the fact that everybody knows about it before hand, and that it happens very early.

It's not fun if there aren't surprises. Oblivion was predictable. Morrowind was not so much (then again, I had literally no knowledge of anything about Morrowind before release, apart from a few key facets such as "Vivec is a large town" and such).
