snip

I was just saying that I liked Titus Mede, not that the game should involve the character running around like the emperors [censored]. No need to get all defensive.

I too prefer "worn-out Empires, on the verge of destruction, full of debauchery and intrigue." Which is precisely why I liked the Medes in The Infernal City, they were an upstart dynasty, feeding on the carcass of a dead Empire.

I don't see how having an Empire would be a bad thing either, it's not like they would need to encompass all of Tamriel, just having control over Cyrodiil would be impressive enough. I think it would be cool if there were emissaries from Cyrodiil in the courts of Skyrim, lobbying for the support of the different regents, they wouldn't even have to have anything to do with the story as far as the main character is concerned, and in fact I would prefer if they didn't.

Edit:
I'm sorry, but Bethesda doesn't need to confirm leaks.

All that was saying is that Skyrim takes place 200 years after Oblivion, it didn't say anything about a new, successful Cyrodiilic Empire.

I like empires. WOuld you rather have an Anarchist Tamriel?

Ya, actually. Well maybe a feudal Tamriel. Something more a long the lines of what Tamriel was like before the Empire. Even before the The Warp in the West it was more interesting with all of the infighting and feudalism.

It would be cool if Skyrim had two large city-states that were fighting each (civil war) with no input from the Empire.

But the Guild has been around for a few thousand years, and gone through multiple empires. I will be disappointed if they are not in Skyrim

Why be disappointed? They've replaced something with the lame generic title of "Mages Guild" and introduced the much more dynamically named College of Whispers and whatever that Synod's called - chances are the change in name is the only difference (along with a little more intrigue maybe, because something called the "Mages Guild" can't be really cool by virtue of not having a really cool name). Hopefully the Fighters Guild and Thieves Guild are gone as well, replaced with something of a different name.

Advances in dwarven-like technology would be intriguing. I'm all for steampunk, as it offers another branch of study for the scholastic characters I enjoy role-playing. (The goggles on the avatar to the left speak to this.)

Not everyone's character has to be dead or a vampire.

An Altmer certainly has that life span, and some Dunmer might too.

Divayth Fyr was 4000 years old at the events of Morrowind. Whats another 200 to that?

I like the idea of a fallen empire. I think it makes for a better focus on the internal problems of a province. Everything in Oblivion was empire-centric, and while there were quests for each of the cities, they all felt pretty much the same (except for the architecture). Maybe now, with the empire hopefully dead with a stake through its heart, the cultures of each province can come to the surface. In Bruma we had imperialized Nords. Hopefully in Skyrim, they'll be real Nords (somewhat more akin to those in Solstheim). It should be somewhat akin to what happened when the Roman Empire fell and all hell broke loose. Interesting times make for interesting stories. I hope that's what we get.

Why do people want to bring their old characters back? It makes no sense for them to be the neravarine, champion of cyrodiil etc. It just doesn't :S

New factions and settlements. Some cities are apparently gone as well. I wonder what happened to Morrowind after the events of The Infernal City.

So the Mages Guild is now gone? I hope there's still magic aleast. I wonder if we will see any characters who were in Oblivion. Okay Bretons/Imperials would be dead so it's not like we are gonna see any of them unless they are vampires but the other races who can live for 200 years.

Mages Guild is gone, Fighters and Thieves Guilds fate unknown or known? What about the Dark Brotherhood? Perhaps it has spread to Skyrim?

I think we may hear a little bit about Cyrodill's fate and history somewhere in Skyrim, by a rumor or just in a book, I think there were information about Morrowind wasn't there?

Mines 216 years old his secret

Dark Brotherhood, Swimming, Living in a variety of cities and being a stud with the ladies

But back on topic a lot can change but I wouldn't be expecting akavier to be conquered or a new island to have been found, but one of the new things I'm hoping for new discoveries regarding astronomy

In Infernal City the Mages Guild had been split up in two new factions. The College Of Whispers which is an organization that tutors and offers a home to mages and The Synod which is an association of experienced mages who has devoted their lives to discover the last secrets of magic and discover and master new forms.

I'd guess that the Dark Brotherhood and Fighters Guild prospers now when there's civil war and just about everyone is willing to pay for mercenaries and assassins.

So um, I know that this has been addressed already, but it didn't seem to make much sense to me.

Where exactly was it said that Skyrim takes place 200 years after Oblivion? I have scoured the internets, but have been unable to find anything on it.

With regards to the Mages Guild, In both Morrowind and Oblivion it already felt to me like it was in serious decline, suffering from misrule, poor organization and with a surprising number of incompetents in high levels. Not to mention Traven's dubious decissions in Oblivion resulting in internal strife and a costly conflict with necromancers. By that time it also seemed to have turned against it's original intent of offering magical services to the public by restricting enchanting and spellmaking services to their own members.
I wasn't at all surprised when the Infernal City mentioned it had collapsed

People these days just assume that things will always advance. That's a fairly recent phenomenon. For there to be a lot of change, the society has to have an impetus to advance. Many societies a couple of thousand years ago didn't have it so advancements came slowly. Two hundred years wouldn't have seen any major leaps forward. In fact, many advancements that were made were often left by the wayside. A lot of them were just not that necessary when they had an abundance of cheap labor in the form of slaves. I imagine magic would have much the same effect on Nirn. It probably holds back much of the advancements in technology because it's just easier to wave your hands and say a few magic words and "poof."

I'd actually like to bring my Daggerfall character back, it's the only one that hasn't became a god or something. (actually my Cyrodiil champion and my Sheogorath replacer one are two different characters in "my"lore. It was simply too much for only one person.)
But yeah, I think a saga has to keep protagonists, and it's awesomely good to see ones return. As the Daggerfall character didn't had as much glory as the Morrowind and Oblivion one, it is time he becomes a legend too, and he actually was my favourite =)

As a Dunmer, I guess he can still be alive near 250 years after the Daggerfall events (I made him really young in daggerfall). Old, but still in good shape. I don't really know how long Dunmer live, but Barenziah is about 600 years old already in Morrowind.
And, I can also make up something with the total space-time-chaotic-mess-up of the Warp in the West at the end of the game.

I believe in the Infernal City it talked about how the Mages Guild had disbanded
I hope that’s not true though :(

they have been separated in 2 different entities i have no more details

but they might keep it alive for the sake of gameplay

They said there are 5 cities. That means two cities are gone.

Correction, they said there would be 5 major cities with "major" being the key word. There could be 800 cities with only 5 being major. My thinking is the main cities (Windhelm, Whiterun, Solitude, etc.) will be the ones they called "major", while the other remaining ones will be not so much small as just not as big as the others.

Would it be possible for a Breton to survive the 200 years between Oblivion and Skyrim? Being basically a man/mer crossover, would they possess the same life-span as their Aldmeri cousins?

With it being 200 years after Oblivion and 160 after Infernal City, I wonder if Skyrim will be bigger than it was before, since territories may have changed since then.

Morrowind will likely be Argonian still, but then we'll have to wait and see on that score, Umbriel was still near the crater of Vivec at the end of the novel. Maybe
it purges them from the Island. I wonder about the convenience of the Nerevarine leaving to Akavir before Morrowind was nearly destroyed from the MiniTrue.

Maybe they'll use the character again in some reference in the future :D
