Two-handed character too easy?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:24 am

I started a two-handed, heavy armor orc last night and I seem to be destroying EVERYTHING that comes in my path in one or two blows. Even with the difficulty turned up I still tore bandits to pieces in one hit, it only seemed to affect how much damage their attacks did to me. So i guess my question is are two-handed weapons too unbalanced and easy to dominate with? I want to make a tank character that can smash skulls in but I dont want the game to be too easy. Should I switch to one-handed/shield or not?

Fight some mages and see how annoying you feel before deciding. Just play whichever style you like. And hopefully you didnt come here just because you smashed a few bandits at the start of the game? What level are you at? Bandits are supposed to be weak anyway.

level 4 but its not that I smashed them one at a time it was like 6 in a room and i was not touched more than twice....are the bandits supposed to be weak enough to be killed in one swing.....although now that I think about most of them were power attacks

No its crazy unbalanced. I started over with a new character because my 2-h warrior was basically a god. Even with the difficulty turned up everything died with 1-2 hits and even people who blocked my attacks were getting crushed. It was boring, silly, and not fun.

And I barely had any smithing.

Or wait until you take on an Ancient Dragon... while using an Iron Battleaxe.

mages are a pain, but yeah it deals some dmg, using a lightarmored nord, with maxed smithing and at lvl 34 it's really easy to crush bandits. although the ones with steel plate and shield requires unrelenting force to go down under 2 seconds ^^

I think two handed weapons are a bit overpowered, both for the player and for enemies. I tear through stuff on my Orc with his Skyforged twohander. And when he uses that racial enrage, fugeddaboudit. On my Warrior when I meet a twohanded high level bandit, they always give me a decent run for my money, and I find blocking to be a worse tactic than dodging.

However I'm pretty much fine with twohanded weapons being overpowered, it should hurt when you take a hit from one of those things, a LOT.

If you feel over powered, use a weaker weapon. I know it sounds trite, but not all adventurers are going to go for the best gear. They get what's serviceable and live with that. Also, if you are playing the game and following the plot, you do not come up against enemies that are that strong in the early stages.

Anyway, I have done this in most roleplaying games where I felt I was winning too easily, I just use a weaker weapon.

Oh, my 2H, LA tank gets killed from time to time. Even though some battles are easy, some are not.

I play a pure mage and carry a two-handed sword for backup if I run out of magic, the two handed weapons are EXTREMELY powerful. I don't have any perk points invested in two handed and haven't smithed or enchanted my blade at all and the damn sword destroys people. I'm level 25 and my two handed skill is around 30ish... lol

My 2H seemed to lose some momentum around level 20-25, anyone else find that?

After a point, any character you play will come to feel god like and easy mode once you hget past the mid levels hump (meaning 25-35 for me.)

I fully expect to one shot the rank and file scumbags... if a greatsword connects with a bandits skull, I expect him to die.

Obviously the same doesn't go for me... I'm the player :D

I still find challenge in boss fights, battles with multiple mages, some dragons, plenty of stuff still out there to keep you on your toes imo.

Did I mention mages?

I hate mages.

Try playing a 2 hander with no resists lol. My Nord was pretty lethal before patch 1.2 and now he has to run from Dragons and Spellcasters alike or face a very fast death.
He got killed by an Ancient Dragon last night in one breath :D

I play on Expert with the same character as you (orc, 2hand, heavy) and I regularly get my ass kicked.

I don't think it is very overpowered. With Armsman(5/5) and 100 skill a daedric sword get around 35-40 damage(without smiting) while the warhammer get 50-55. The sword is faster and can probably get in 2 strikes for each swing of the hammer, which will give the one-handed the advantage since it can be used with a shield or even another weapon which potentially can double the damage done. No, I believe one-handed would be to overpowered if it weren't for the high damage per strike the two.handed weapons have.

You should try fighting something more dangerous than bandits.. how about a giant, if you can one-hit him (or even win), you are overpowered B) .

My lvl25 two-hander with an enchanted flawless elvenbatlleaxe mows most enemies down easily, but in a dungeon, where I fought first a draugr deathlord and then a dragon priest I died a lot of times, before winning on cheap strategies (I'm playing on adept), so I'm sure you will encounter things, where you don't feel overpowered later in the game.

My 2-H Nord struggles at times. That's why I use Archery to thin the ranks before charging in. And mages, well if I'm inside I just run around a corner, and when they follow *WHACK* right in the face.

I use a Skyforged Steel Sword all the time. I used an Ebony Warhammer for a bit and noticed it made almost every fight a cakewalk. As fast as I could swing, lives were extinguished. So I went back to the sword to have more challenge (and gut stabs!).

Wait til you fight the long range mages who spam frost at you putting you on perma snare. Your weakness will be ranged opponents that hit hard and snare

Wait til you hit level 30. Mobs seem to spike at that level and hit much harder.

I noticed this to a huge extent when i started my character today...the thing I've REALLY noticed is how many finishers I get, probably because the damage is so high. Only level 8 right now, but even so, it's kinda ridiculous; in order to kill a bandit chief, i power attack twice and the third attack is almost always a finisher. Normal bandits go down in one power attack or two normal attacks, the only really challenging fight i've had so far was when i got attacked by two bears at once!

In addition to this, I'm not getting any of the smithing perks or making anything, so pretty much the limit to my upgrades is (Fine).

Not complaining, really, just found it odd that it was so easy

Two-handed weapons are awesome for the first 10 levels or so, then things balance out a bit more.

I like the fast killing power of the weapons :)
