Two Handed Weapon, meet middle scroll wheel!

Now I know we all have heard about how the the new Skyrim will have a much more friendly menu system and inventory. We have been told that you can set favorites (like bookmarks) to your weapons and spells making it so that all you have to do is press on the D pad or I am assuming the scroll wheel on the mouse (most certain that is what it will be, i mean it makes sense). I was thinking about the dual wielding at first and thought that the two handed weapon wielders will be a bit screwed on the magic since they would have to switch to use it.. but I don't see that being an issue now that they will have an easy access to switching. Just set up your favorites next to each other, one being the two handed weapon and then two being the magic. With the flick of a finger you have your wannabe dual weilded magic + two handed weapon. I am not sure if this will work as I envision it. Perhaps it won't work this way since one must consider that they might want the two handed weapons to be specific to the hardcoe fighters and non magic users. I assume they want to make magic more commonplace but at the same time they don't want EVERYONE to necessarily feel like they need to use it. They might just want to keep two handed weapons to those berserker type fighting characters.

I'm predicting that the zweihanders will have their inability to have two weapons/attacks/whatever equipped offset by being able to do massive damage with long reach.

i'd rather use hotkeys than mouse-scroll or a selection wheel, much faster.

But having all options is good.

I would like to have both available but I can see that the wheel would be much more beneficial for keeping the combat more active. If you think about it, it is difficult to keep using WASD at the same time you attempt to push on one of the F keys above or across the keyboard. If you set your items and spells properly with your mouse scroll wheel then it makes it so you can continue to move while switching instead of stopping dead in your tracks even for a millisecond to switch hotkeys. I would assume this would be more beneficial to PC users but if I remember correctly hotkeys were pretty annoying in oblivion for consoles. Didn't you have to hold something down first before selecting a hotkeyed spell or weapon? If so that is much more difficult than just pushing on the D pad.

I think on the 360 to assign something you had to press Y and the direction on the d-pad you wanted to bind to. To actually use the hotkey you just pressed the corresponding direction on the d-pad but the diagonal detection was abysmal.

Anyways, in Oblivion wasn't the scroll wheel one toggle for third person mode? With zoom adjusted by scrolling the wheel? How would you handle zoom if the scroll wheel is used up by hotkeys.

Besides one of their goals is making each of the combat styles more distinct, and making two handers unwieldy to use for all except pure warriors would serve that purpose excellently.

in the heat of battle, the scroll wheel is too iffy. i usually end up scrolling past what i was looking for and then have to scroll back till i finally land on what i was looking for. the time it usually takes to do that usually is detrimental to my hp.

i say stick with hotkeys.

They could make the zoom work differently i suppose. you can always hold a key down and the mouse 1 button and drag your mouse backwards to zoom out. Like say that the new button for 3rd person view was TAB, you could hold TAB and mouse button 1 (normally attack) and move your mouse slowly backward or forward to adjust distance.

Edit: about scroll wheel moving past what you want- Get a good gaming mouse. I have the logitech g500 and the wheel has a nice grip on it and it stops nicely.
