Two-Handed Weapons

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:37 am

Realistically 2-handed weapons are not really any slower than 1-handed. Especially if you start momentum with the weapon before engaging in swordplay. Once the weapon is in motion it is easy to keep in motion until you land a solid blow or it gets blocked completely (not deflected or glancing) which would still injure a shield arm because of the blunt force trauma. As long as you keep the weapon moving the attack speed should be as fast or faster than a 1-handed weapon.

For people who think it takes a heavy weapon to hurt someone in armor... a 5 lb. sledge can bust up a car and a 1 lb golf club can open up the fenders (even the old classic metal ones) like a can opener without much effort at all.

What about a perk that increases the effect of smacking some with a two handed weapon? instead of increasing the chance to stagger maybe one that increases the effect of staggering so the enemy is left crippled or knocked down or dazed for a few seconds?

That would be good, but maybe that could come alongside perks that increases the chance of the effect, so that there can be different builds of two-handed weapon users, ones that stagger a little but often and ones that stagger or even knockdown opponents but rarely.

Yes, definitely

Two handed weapons are MUCH heavier, slow you WAY down, and are much slower to swing.

How weak they are in Oblivion was ridiculous

Bethesda should study how OOO buffed them. I think sword + board was still a bit better in OOO but it was much closer, and you could really pound enemies with a twohander.

They should be more powerful than in OB. The reason is that in OB you could combine the usage of two-handed weapons and magic, something that wont be possible in Skyrim. Btw do anyone have an idea for shortening Skyrim? I mean Oblivion have OB, Morrowind have MW and Saggerfall have DF. Suggestions?

Not in my opinion, no. ESV could work as well though.

Back on topic, could anyone tell me how OOO buffed two-handed weapons? I don't play Oblivion on the PC so I don't know much about the mods available.

Nah SR= Shadowrun add a number to the end and you get the edition, SR2 being the best of the lot, SR4 or SR4A(anniversary edition) being the current edition.

Perhaps, instead of parrying, the way to stop 2h weapons would be to dodge?
Basically, make them more powerful, but make the person carrying one move slower.
That way, your agile ranger can slip around the barbarians clumsy warhammer swings.

I agree because if you were to use a much heavier weapon you are sacrificing speed for a bigger blade/blunt

From a balancing standpoint I want to say yes, but as someone who never plays with two handed weapons I am half tempted to say no...

I agree and think that they will be. Don't quote me on this but didn't Todd say that two handed weapons had its own thing? not sure exactly what but i'm pretty sure it means that they went farther into it so it will be more powerful and better overall
On an unrelated note, he said there were classes for each weapon and something for one handed V two handed- but where does dual weapons fit?

Large blunt weapons (Battle axe/Warhammer etc) should be slowed down quite a bit but given massive boost to damage. I want to take someone's arm off (literally; as in Fallout style) with my weapon if I land a power attack.

If someone takes a hit with a warhammer while blocking with their weapon(s) then they should take nearly full damage, their weapons should take massive damage, and their weapon should be knocked out of their hand. If they block with a shield instead, then they should take much less damage, but stagger and still have their shield take pretty good damage.

Slower, but more powerful.

Off topic, but---I'd also like to see more realistic weights for some weapons. I remember in OB, I think it was the Ebony Blade that you get from one of the Daedric quests, was a one handed katana-like weapon that weighed ~50 pounds. C'mon, really? Those type of weapons should be light.
