Two Nagging Questions

Can't seem to get the console to come up. I've tried the ~ with and without the CTR, SHIFT, etc. I also checked my .ini file to verify it's enabled. Anybody got any ideas?

I restarted the game from scratch and rented a room in RIVET CITY as before. I needed to rent it only once for the entire game I just finished. However, when I go back to this time it indicates it's "locked - hard" just as if I hadn't rented it. Well, the 1st time I've re-rented it assuming there was a glitch as I didn't recall seeing the caps taken. The 2nd time was a real annoyance but I had some stuff stashed in there and had to get to it. The 3rd time was experimental as I was checking what triggered the reset. Seems that it is reset by the amount of time away from the room, not just RIVET City. When I WAIT, or fast travel a short distance and come back within a 24 to 48 hr period does not trigger the reset. Anything over 48 hrs does reset the room.

To get your console working, try looking at the top of http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands, it pretty much covers everything.

The cells resetting after x amount of time that you have not been in them is normal. That is how the merchants restock up on caps, monsters respawn, etc... In Oblivion it was set to 72 hours. I have not be able to figure out the exact time in FO3 though.

I read that page before and still can't get the console to come up.

Not sure if the room is a cell in the same way. As mentioned, I rented the room before and never had this problem. Didn't really need it after I deactivated the nuke in Megton, but regardless I just started this game and haven't completed that quest yet. Any other ideas, anyone?

I do not believe the room itself is a separate cell. You can when you are entering a new cell when you get that momentary black screen while the game loads the new data for it. If you are anywhere in that cell it will not reset. I believe that entire deck level of Rivet City is a single cell.

So what's the problem, it's supposed to work that way. It's a hotel room, not a home. You only get access to it for 24 hours, much like going to a Holiday Inn or Best Western in the real world. There's only 2 official homes in the game, the one in Megaton and the other in Tenpenny Towers. Anything you pay for is just a temporary bed to sleep in, not a permanent base of operations.

Only once has the room in Rivet City reset on me. I don't know if it is a glitch when it resets or a glitch if it doesn't. The problem with the room is we don't know what the duration of your stay is supposed to be. In Novac, your character is told you can use the room indefinately. 120 caps a night is pricey for the CW.

It's a glitch if it doesn't reset. It's supposed to be a temporary accommodation, just like Moriarity's and Carol's Place. It wasn't meant to act as a base of operations. That's the role of the two homes in Megaton and Tenpenny Towers.

If you rent a hotel room it's only for a single day, so 24 hours is supposed to be the duration.

It's the same price as Carol's Place, and only 20 caps more than Moriarity's.

Yep. As for the tilde key, it is is above the tab and left of the 1. Do not press the shift when using it.
