[RELz] Two Perks per Level!

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:49 pm

On the Nexus at http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39088&tab=6&navtag=/modules/comments/index2.php?tid=281843|:|fid=39088

Part of the larger XFO Project.

From the readme at XFO-NV.com (go there for updates and details!):

Now you can gain TWO perks per level! While it may sound like cheating, most never thought that when they went from a perk every two levels to a perk every level. The wasteland is harsh, and perks are fun. Plus, there are so many perk-adding modules (like my own "perk paths" at http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39051 or XFO-NV.com :P), it can feel overwhelming to choose and underwhelming how many perks you get. I like it. If I get requests, I'll add a retroactive module (this one only works on levels gained after installation). Similarly, I can add a 3 Perks per level version, etc. Depends on demand ;)

NOTE: Not recommended for use with Swift Learning, at any rank. I've put in a check, so if you have swift learning, you may simply lose a little xp each time you gain an extra perk, but not necessarily, and shouldn't be much at all (whatever passes over the new-level mark will be lost).

well that last bit sounds bad, what if you finish a mission that gets you a new level and your unconveniantly on like 3 xp away from a levelup? screwed thats what!

Well...

First, that only happens if you have swift learning; otherwise it works fine.

Second, IF you have swift learning, you don't have to worry about that xp; you'll more than make it up in the meantime.

Third, you're getting two perks, which is kinda like two levels, so you're ahead in the long run. Use the extra perks to get the next couple levels of swift learner. You'll never notice that one-shot 200-or-so XP ever went missing ;)

Or just don't pick swift learner because it's a ridiculous waste of a perk :P

I'm trying to use this mod in conjunction with XFO, but I seem to run into some problems with this. When i level up I'll go through the normal level up screens, then I'll wait a few seconds for the screen to appear to select my next perk, but it takes me to the skill select screen and that's it. Am i missing a crucial step? I'm using some other mods that add or modify perks, could these be in conflict. Also, I'm using FOOK.

It will inevitably take you to the skill screen. The way I set it up, it reduces your gained SP temporarily to 0, so the skill screen is just a cosmetic glitch -- or are you saying that when you pass through the skill screen, it doesn't take you to the perk screen? I can't *imagine* why that would happen! Unless you are loading a mod after it that changes iLevelsPerPerk (a GMST/gamesetting) to something other than 1 (which would, indeed, screw up this mod).

Try loading the Two Perks Per Level esp last in your load order (in FOMM, drag it to the bottom). If you aren't clicking through ("Continue" or whatever it is :P) the skill screen, do that, too ;) Let me know if that helps. If not, I'm glad to hear of a bug to squash; it's always the top priority!

Has anything been done on this? I like the idea of this mod, but I don't really want to start a new character to get the benefits from it.

I also am having the same problem as the previous poster.

On reaching a new level, I get offered the skill screen, and then the perks, where I can only choose one. After choosing 1, it tells me I made it to the next level (???) and brings me back to the skill screen (although no points can be distributed). After that, I can close the screen but a perk screen does not appear.

Does anyone have link, were Obsidian explains there bizarre decision to gain a perk every other level. Its fun getting perks and leveling up, Beth realized this for Skyrim and made the game range from 1-50 instead of level 1-30 just so you could get more perks.

It likely has to do with game balance.

Anyhoo, this mod is essentially broken. I can't get it to function and have had to resort to using the console to add perks in the spirit of the mod, which kind of.. defeats the purpose, I guess.

Noticed a bug dealing with experience recalculations: If you go through a loading door shortly between the time you gain a level but before the second screen appears, it will not correctly subtract the experience -- but it will turn around and re-add it. I essentially leveled to 8, did my perks, went and shot like, 3 bad guys, and leveled to 9.

Is there no way currently to get this to work again?
I really do not want to use the console for these things. :(

Is it possible to get a version with 5 or 6 perks per level. I ask because i would like to develop a leveling system built for 50 levels but will allow a person to get most of the perks they want from more perks/more perks dead money/more perks for companions.
