Two questions about mods

A little off-topic but... What is your secret? My Modded Oblivion have CTD whenever I try to reload a save or create a new game. (And I even deleted the .INI so that the game could do its own .INI again) I found Patched Fallout to be much more stable.

No secret really i steered clear of large overhaul packs almost completely. I used dozens of small mods, kept my load order in check and avoided obvious major direct conflicts. I did recently go through all my mods reinstall and update my stuff since i adopted a new way to keep my mods which is backup the whole freaking game directory (far easier than backing up mod files and less potential for conflicts if you gotta put everything on a new system).

I added MMM and a bit of Francescos but i was careful about it so it still runs good. If i do use big mods i don't use all of them so no OOO Fransesco's MMM with uberness or anything like that.

If your game is so utterly screwed you can't even start a new game or load a game i suggest you do a clean install look through your mods carefully update them and slowly put them in a few at a time. If you suddenly notice a large spike in crashes try to find the mod responsible and remove it.

I want small mods for houses and cloths maybe better bodies for certain outfits. Maybe later on something that could upgrade the textures and maybe something to add weapons.

Thanks you all trying to educate myself on the subject of mods for when I do get a capable PC to run them.

Stuff like houses and clothing probably cause the least amount of problems. Just try to get ones that add only clothing and don't do overhauls to game mechanics and you should be good. Just be careful on houses because they can cause problems sometimes. Just keep an eye on your game and be on the lookout for crashes.

What about other things such as horse back fighting etc. This seems to be something that people take on, why would bethesda leave this out?

They made a design decision that mounted combat doesn't work well for their games; clearly, some people disagree. That's life.
