Two questions: unclean dialogue, quest updated pop-ups

Hey folks. I recently decided to try putting together a mod for the first time, mostly just to see if I could do it. So far I've been more successful than I expected, and on the off-chance that I get something resembling a finished mod that's worth releasing I'm trying to avoid compatibility issues wherever possible. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of it, until I stumbled across the http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Unclean_Dialogue entry in the CS wiki.

Most of my dialogue has been in the form of new entries added to new quests spoken only by new NPCs, and thus shouldn't be a problem. However, I've also had to expand a little bit on existing dialogue to avoid some major plot holes. So far I've only had to do so once, but I expect to have to do more as I get further into the process and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. To be specific, I needed to expand on Baurus's MQ05 Greeting that begins "Now that you have all four books...". I didn't alter anything that was already there, but I did add two more lines of Response Text after the last pre-existing one. The only line marked with a * is the one I intentionally changed and I didn't make any copies of existing lines which leads me to believe I'm OK, but the conclusions section of the wiki entry seems to say that any modification of original Oblivion lines is a very bad idea. So, do I need to back up and fix this or am I still on solid ground?

My second question is hopefully a bit simpler. You know the "Quest Updated" popup you get in-game when advancing a quest with the journal entry and the option to make it your active quest? My quests aren't doing that. The journal updates and the quest advances as it should, but there's no popup making it clear what's happened. I've looked through the quest window in the CS, but I can't find anything to change it. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks for your time!
