Two race questions

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:58 am

More research for my fanfic. Appreciate any help:

1. A Bosmer mother and Breton father would produce an offspring that one would physically resemble a Bosmer?

2. A Bosmer who appeared to be approximately 60 years old (if human) might be approximately how many years old (I also appreciate any additional insight on how Bosmers age)?

1. Yes, although the child might inherit some traits from the father, like more affinity with magic than the average Bosmer.

2. Not much is known about the age of Bosmer. The only piece of information I can think of is the following qoute:

Commander Jasrat watched it slowly disappear into the horizon as he led the caravan southwestward. It was a strange practice for him to lead a night operation, but scarcely more bizarre than anything else he was facing. He was only seventy years of age, far from old for a Bosmer, and yet he felt like he belonged to another era.

It also depends on the kind of Bosmer. For example, we know that a regular Dunmer can only become 120 years old, while a noble
could get as old als 500-1000.

Races generally inherit racial traits of their mothers;

Notes on Racial Phylogeny and Biology, Seventh Edition

by the Council of Healers, Imperial University
After much anolysis of living specimens, the Council long ago determined that all "races" of elves and humans may mate with each other and bear fertile offspring. Generally the offspring bear the racial traits of the mother, though some traces of the father's race may also be present.

As for age, mer generally live longer than men, although I'd guess that Bosmer live less than Altmer or Dunmer. For reference, the Interview With A Dunmer says;

I've always been curious about the lifespan of elves. We all know they live much longer than all other races, is this true for the Dunmer as well? How many years would it take for you to be considered 'old'?

Alvur Relds:
Well, I'm fifty, done my twenty years in the Service, and I'm in the prime of life. I expect another fifty good years, and then I'll be old, and slow, chatting with gaffers around the hearth for another twenty, thirty years. I've known mer still mind-sharp in their late hundreds, and heard of folk 200 and older. My family usually makes it to 120-130, providing we don't get sick or poked in the eye.

If you need any more I made a thread a while back that went pretty in depth. I believe its called Elvin Lives (with elven misspelled like that).

Well it is an interesting question to say the least. I couldn't think of any source or bosmer actually stating an age of one. I would say that the bosmer live a similar length of life compared to the other elves, this is taken by ignoring the one which come from there native home(Valenwood) who I would assume would live a similar lifespan to humans due to there simple lifestyles. to answer your question a mixed race child takes after the mother with minimal traits if any of the father.

We've been told that the offspring more closely resembles the mother, but I'm inclined to believe he wouldn't look perfectly Bosmer. The games don't represent it so well with appearance or attributes but there's likely a sizable multiracial population on Tamriel, especially considering most elven and mannish races can produce offspring. Consider that the entire Breton race is the result of inter breeding and they don't look like Elves, Imperials or Nords exactly. That should lead us to believe that over generations, the form of continued racial mixing begins to diverge into a hybrid appearance.

2. A Bosmer who appeared to be approximately 60 years old (if human) might be approximately how many years old (I also appreciate any additional insight on how Bosmers age)?

Depends....

Depends on the person's genes, their lifestyle, their profession, what magical items they have access to. A poor farmer, miner or laborer of other sorts would be weathered and visibly middle aged although not so physically degraded as a human of the same age. A noble, sorcerer or person of wealth and luxury may appear to be quite remarkably young at this age. *Note - we don't know as much about Bosmer specifically as we do about Dunmer or Altmer when it comes to aging. If we assume they live only slightly shorter lives but still longer than humans then that's what I base my guess off of.
