Two Texture Issues

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:51 am

So I've been going a bit crazy with the replacers lately and have had a few issues. First, what I suspect is a problem with Darknut's Creatures textures: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/MoonstalkerZ/Morrowind/MGEScreenshot3.jpg I'm thinking maybe I didn't transfer one of the files properly?

Second, Starwarsguy's Detailed Tapestries. When I downloaded it one of the files (tx_de_tapestry_02.dds) was corrupted, but I figured if I just didn't use that texture the game would continue using the original texture. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/MoonstalkerZ/Morrowind/MGEScreenshot1.jpg The texture does show up correctly if I http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/MoonstalkerZ/Morrowind/MGEScreenshot2.jpg Is there some other file I can take out, or some other way to fix this?

The textures aren't corrupted, you just need to open the multivolume properly. Both volumes must be downloaded when the textures are extracted, and you should probably be using winrar or 7-zip.

Erm...how would I do that? Do I extract them both at the same time, or am I totally missing something? (I'm using 7zip btw)

The texture in the first picture is called tx_guar_tarp.dds, and it looks like it's missing an alpha channel. Which version of Darknut's creature textures are you using, 512 or 1024? I use the 1024 res version and it works fine.

@Helena: Yeah, I downloaded the 1024 version and that did the trick, thanks!

Um...not really? If I'm understanding it correctly, it's supposed to go through both parts automatically, but all it does after the first one is tell me the file is broken and then stops.

What about right click > 7-zip > Extract files... [and then choose somewhere temporary for them]
Also, right click > 7-zip > test archive

Does that give an error, it could be a corrupted download. Before re-downloading try using WinRAR (as that's what it's packed with). It's a small download, trialware and you can uninstall it immediately afterwards.

That is a truly DUMB way to pack files. Sorry. If they are individual downloads, then split them into individual RARs. RAR is bad enough as a file archive utility, but creating spanned RARs is the WORST idea because of exactly this problem. Not everyone wants to use the RAR utility, 7zip is better (both as a utility and in its packing quality), but neither can cope with spanned RARs if you've renamed any of the files, you've then broken the spanning function. Especially if you've not noted this anywhere in readmes etc.

Please reupload as two independent (non-spanned) archives or (better) just a single one to fix this. And as notified elsewhere, the PES links are working very strangely too and don't lead to downloads, so something there is broken and needs checking.

Having encountered this in my own game, I can confirm that the 512 version of that texture is missing the alpha channel. Substituting the 1024 version of that one texture is the inelegant solution I arrived at.

good to know, i had the same problem (just deleted the texture; but upgrading to 1024 is admittedly a much better solution ;) )
