Two things I really haven't seen covered.

Post » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:49 pm

So I was watching the Container City preview videos when I happened to notice in http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r122/TheJerm91/zomgturretupgrade.jpg it says upgrade teammate's turret for 100 XP. I'm pretty curious about how that works if it's still in the game, and whether it requires an ability or not.

As for the other thing, I've been wondering - if a medium or heavy runs toward a wall only lights can scale while holding down the SMART button, do they attempt to climb the wall but fail halfway up, or do they simply do nothing?

EDIT: Third question that was asked 20 posts into the thread:

If I am playing as an Operative and I hack an enemy engineer's turret, does that turret despawn when that engineer places another? Or better yet, does that engineer lose the ability to create a new turret until the one I control dies?

In addition, I noticed in the GT-TV video that turrets can be repaired - could engineers on my team repair this turret?

Haven't heard anything, old build.

IDK.

These questions definitely haven't been covered:
First I think it might be an ability considering you have to have the ability for more higher tier turrets in order to use them.
Second as far as I know this wasn't really discussed so it's not really known but I'd assume that he tries to scale it but fails and just slips down

Yeah I know it's an old build (from Fall 2010 release days), so it's very possible it's been scrapped. Still, I'm surprised something like this wasn't ever listed in the Compendium - assuming I didn't just skip over it the few times I read through.

Even if it is(n't) scrapped, I'm pretty curious about how powerful the buff was/is.

Yea, i would actually hope the heavies try and fall back down. That would actually be hilarious but also since the SMART isn't supposed to be auto pilot and uses what you give it to maneuver I think it would have to try to get you over but just ends up not being able to.

I remember a guy who played the demo mentioned that he kept on misjudging how high he could mantle, and kept running into the walls. So if the obstacle is out of your reach, seems like nothing happens.

Seeing as this game has A LOT in common with TF2, I wouldn't be surprised if you could upgraded friendly turrets.

Even though I agree, it would enable a canned animation, because you end up going backwards.

One of my buddies told me that all bodies can climb but they all have limits. The lightweight body can climb anything one story or less. The medium body can climb anything eye level and the heavy body can climb anything waist level or lower. Hope I helped.

That is correct, its been confirmed for days now so they didn't lie so..Yay? here :turtle:

I don't think so. That wouldn't exactly be very "SMART." Maybe if you tried doing it manually that might happen, but I would think that if you were just holding the SMART button and going auto, your char just wouldn't attempt anything at all.

Even though I agree, it would enable a canned animation, because you end up going backwards.

Exactly. And the devs talk incessantly about trying to avoid that kind of crap.

It has been confirmed for months, if not more than a year.

Also on the turret thing: I don't think you can upgrade a turret, only repair them.
Perhaps the person misjudged a MG-nest for a friendly turret or it really was an old build.

Wow, that degenerated in a turtle fest pretty quickly, but "big up" DeathByJerm for finding two things genuinely not discussed. I was thinking of starting a post called "Have we run out of things to talk about?"

As for the answers....I have no clue, I just wanted to get in on a new subject and say "I was there". But I'd presume that you just run into walls when they are too high, because the animation of trying and failing would probably cost you your life in the game and that would get more annoying than all the posts that could be solved by reading the Brink Bible. Turtle me.

What your buddy said is true, and is actually the basis for my question. I appreciate the attempt to help though.

Good points, hadn't thought about the fact it would probably result in a canned animation. I'm inclined to agree with both of you, but it's possible that failing to scale the wall could result in a free fall with full control over your aim and ability to fire. I doubt this is the case, but I suppose it's a possibility.

It has been confirmed for months, if not more than a year.

Well it couldn't be a person's misjudgment because it's on the objective wheel in the picture. That is, unless you're saying it could be a misjudgment by whoever programmed the actual text into the wheel... then I say unlikely, but a possibility.

And yes, it was an old build (Fall 2010 release date era) but nothing has been presented saying the mechanic has been scrapped. And even if it has been scrapped, I'm still curious about how it worked beforehand.

Also, @Solarcrest and Cuzin_1t: Thanks for the ninja and "big up."

I apologize for the double-post, but I have another question (and I figure it might be overlooked if I simply edited the OP).

My question is: If I am playing as an Operative and I hack an enemy engineer's turret, does that turret despawn when that engineer places another? Or better yet, does that engineer lose the ability to create a new turret until the one I control dies?

In addition, I noticed in the GT-TV video that turrets can be repaired - could engineers on my team repair this turret?

As for the first: I guess the enginee can't put up another turret before his old one (technically it's still his) is destroyed.

As for the second: That should not be possible imo.

Yeah, there has to be some sort of penalty for allowing your turret to get hacked. There wouldn't be much of a point in hacking it in the first place if the owner could just remove it by placing another.

Maybe upgrade ally turret just means you can upgrade your own and its considered ally because its friendly?

That would make sense. Either that, or both could exist simultaneously.

As for the second: That should not be possible imo.

Which begs the question: Can friendly engineers repair each other's turrets? Or is turret repair exclusive to the engineer that dropped it?

I believe Engineers can repair allied turrets.

At least one of the latest video interviews showed a scene which led me to this conclusion.
