Two weird errors in CS

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:20 pm

I reinstalled Morrowind and the CS today after a long absence and now the CS is giving me two problems I've never had before.

Problem one: the scripting window does not appear when I click to load it.

Problem two: I get an error "Chunk size 10 too big in chunk WEAT-ID in form REGN_ID. Max size is 8, data truncated to "|#| |". Continue running executable?" whenever I try to load anything.

Does anybody know how to fix these problems? Thanks!

In the past I've always seen that Chunk Size errors are from installing the expansions in the wrong order. The correct installation for GOTY should be Morrowind -> Tribunal -> Bloodmoon. If you did Morrowind -> Bloodmoon -> Tribunal, simply install Bloodmoon again and that should fix it.

I used to run dual monitors during the first install, and I had a few of the CS windows in the second monitor. Could the CS still be trying to load my script window in the now non-existent second screen, and that's why it's not showing up? How do I fix it if I have no access to a second monitor? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CS.

I've just tried this in Win 7 and it worked for me:

  • Open the TESCS
  • Once it's loaded, click the script button once
  • Press Alt+Space on your keyboard, this should open up the script window's system menu
  • Select the "Move" option
  • Use your keyboard arrow keys to position the window back on screen

This fixed the issue, but when I closed the CS and opened it later the window reverted to its invisible location. Is there a way to set it permanently on the main screen?

Vista and Win7 just seem to have a few bugs like this with the CS.
I don't think there's any permanent fix, it just happens.

I'll have access to a second screen next week, I'll try loading the CS with that, relocating the window, then disabling the second screen afterwards and see what happens. If that doesn't fix it than I'll assume it's just an unfixable glitch and tolerate the minor inconvenience. At least the CS is usable now.

I was basically in the CS to set up the money cheat I typically use when I test mod projects I work on that involve merchants. I did a little workaround using the actual money objects in a container instead of scripting the money to a special object. It actually worked much better that way. This cheat will never be released and never used on my non-testing characters.

I'm sure most modders make little personal utilities like this for testing purposes.

Thanks everybody for the advice, and I'll let you all know next week if my fix idea works.

Yup :)
I usually just use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6338 if I need to test high-level stuff.
The very handy "Qube of Giving" is great for testing.

I've used the CS under Windows 7 and never had this issue. I would shrink down all of your visible windows to see if the render window has someone gotten behind them. If it has, move it to where you want it and resize all of the other windows. After you've done that, close the CS and reopen it. Your windows should stay how and where you put them.
