Types of Accents?

Post » Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:41 am

If there's Irish, English, and Scottish I doubt there will be another from the British Isles, unfortunately. Unfortunately, because ideally we'd have the option of any accent in existence.

Aye, thos' buggers't splosh' damage fergit' about us!

I sure hope there is a Scottish accent, or I'm gonna go freaking William Wallace on those bloody brits.

It's gonna be really confusing when the game drops though. The accents are listed by voice actor, not country of origin XD

I want a canadian accent.

The stereotypical one, or the real one? Cause Canadians talk like the American accent.

There is. We've heard it in loads of the videos. ^_^

Yeah, in Scarey-ari-ario we do (with the "eh") but not in Noo'fuhn'lan', Kew-beck, or various other regions.

Most Canadians don't sound like U.S. Americans, and most U.S. Americans don't sound like each other.

I feel like I've said this before, but I'm hoping for a nice, generic american accent. BEyond that I'll gladly use anything else I can for my other characters, but I just don't want my main sounding too anything.

I've seen asian faces so I'm going to assume there is an asian accent. Would be an oversight if it was missing.

Russian makes you immune to knock down.
American increases weapon damage.
British increases charisma, uhm ... pips.
German allows you to complete objectives on time, uhm ... faster.
Australian allows you to double-walljump.

Anybody know which accent says "Mucho bad guys spotted!" Because I hear that in pretty much every video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_CykYOy6Lw it's used three times, first ones at 45 sec.

New Zealand accent lets you "DIY" objectives your class can't normally complete - but with delays - a non-Operative hack takes triple the normal time to complete, a non-Soldier bomb has a 2 minute timer, etc.

And you have no mini-map, because we're used to much smaller cities than the Ark, and get lost easily in large built-up places :celebration:

A Canadian accent replaces your gun with a hockey stick, eh?

Just got a glimpse of a youtube (TheLLSMUVG channel) video showing the entirety of the customisation menus.

The voice types are described by name of actor and not 'accent' or 'origin'. Damian O'Hare is the first voice actor and he plays the Northern Irish accent which I'm fairly happy about, I'll be using that.

No surprises really, you've already heard them all in the previous Brink previews/trailers.

Damian O'Hare (Fairly strong Northern Irish accent, notably the guy in the Choir of Guns trailer with the vest and dark hair/beard rallying his team)
Ray Shell (sounds African American)
Alec Newman (he's Scottish but doesn't portray a Scotch accent IMO, sounds more American Hollywood-movie style from the snippet)
Jimmy Akingbola (he's British and sounds British, of Nigerian descent)
David Yip (English guy, of Chinese descent, normally has a strong posh English accent but puts on an odd Asian/eastern European accent I think)
Dhafer L'Abidine (Sounds like South African come Caribbean at times, strange one to describe as well)
Ryan McCloskey (Sounds American, not sure which state)
Richie Campbell (Not really sure.. might be S.African? I can never work out that accent either way)...

It was quite tricky trying to understand every accent from those little snippets.

Google/youtube those names. All qualified actors I think as well, some with experience of voice acting on other games (Alec Newman on Fable & Killzone). Good work SD, should help the gripping atmosphere with strong emotional voice acting leading the way.

- Apologies if this information is disallowed prior to release.

To me, Ryan sounds like one of those generic US army accents, that soldiers pick up after a while in the army. I only say this because that voice sounds like countless squad members from any modern shooter you can think of.

The Splash Damage guys said there were 8 voice packs and those are the eight names that come up on the customisation screen..

I would be surprised if the Resistance didn't have the same voice types. It'd be very nice if each faction had slight alterations on the voices based on which faction they're in but after hearing them, seeing them on the menu and having watched all the trailers/clips, I don't think that's the case.

David Yip does a sort of asian accent I suppose as he's of Chinese descent, despite a strong English accent.

They aren't listed as countries, they're listed as the voice actor's names. So it's not really going to be huge distinctions in ethnicity, just changes in the voice and probably some subtle accents.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't read whole thread.
