Types of music for montages..

Post » Sun Oct 28, 2012 8:19 am

I'm making my first montage for Crysis2 and I'm curious what kind of music would be the best for game montage.

I'll say what I think about few types of music that I listen the most;
- Dubstep is easiest to synchronize kills with, but there are very few good songs, and community/gamers are fed up with ridiculously large amount of montages with dubstep soundtrack.
- DnB (drum&bass) is fast and pumped up, but maybe too fast for montages except for some berserk moments in game.
- Hip-hop; it's cool if it's some saturated beat that doesn't sound shallow and empty, but rap over beat just doesn't go well with gameplay footage because it distracts the viewer. So probably something more like glitch-hop with less vocals in it.
There are many other genres and subgenres that could sound good as a soundtrack for game montage, but I've focused on these 3.

It doesn't even have to be some mainstream music, it can be some good cinematic soundtrack.

It would be nice to see what community likes to hear in montages, fragmovies, teamtages, etc...
Feel free to discuss.

I'd like to hear some DnB, liquidfunk or neurofunk to be exact, some psychedelic madness ambient lol...
Some of games I've played and enjoyed a lot, that had really good scores, were using mostly DnB and it fit perfectly with sci-fi action.

I do agree with dubstep being overrated, I try to not to have it in my montages now lol.. However, it is hard to put rock songs with lyrics cause it's like 'killing with some love song lol.. xD Even though they do have nice beats. :P

Too bad I have bad internet, otherwise I'd upload lot of derpy videos xD

This montage will probably be my only chance, so I can't afford to make mistakes, especially not with the music.
Montage should be showcase of someones personal style, so music should be another way of expressing personality (beside gameplay, which is 1st in focus in game montages obviously). It will never be perfect for all people, but would be good if considered as decent by majority...

That's why I'm interested in community's music preferences.

btw: Thanks to demoniXbloods recommendation in PM, I have another candidate for perfect soundtrack! Thnx bro, much appreciated!

Honestly, any people would tell you that this or that type of song is overrated and stuff but what matters in the end is how you mix it in. If yourself, love the tune, then it's all good. It's all about expressing your kind of music. :D

Myself, I like pretty much everything since i'm really open (dance, house, techno, trance, alternative rock, new wave, post-rock, electronic rock, country, rap, just a few dubstep songs, DnB, hip hop, rock, etc.)

I sent you a PM of some of my precious songs. :)
