UESP vs Elder Scrolls Wiki

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:54 am

I've always stood by the UESp, but I thought, I know, let's compare so I picked a random page.

Pelagius III

UESP:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Pelagius_Septim_III

Elder Scrolls Wiki:

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Pelagius_III

Now the Wiki has far more content. Are there any things I need to be taking into considerations and which is best?

The Elderscrolls Wiki isn't very accurate on alot of things..and I mean ALOT of things. If you have to pick the two, UESP is by far the best, but http://www.imperial-library.info/ is the most reliable and credible by leaps and bounds.

Edit: A good instance, Elderscrolls Wiki says Yokuda is no more, which is wrong. Its on maps, voyages still go there from Anvil, and while its no longer one continuous land mass it still remains as a series of large islands.

Except TIL has MK, of whom I'm still not fond of. And thnks. I read a different page, and the whole thing refers to Tiber as General Talos, and this is before he mantled, so I assume it's incorrect, or I have some kind of misunderstanding of Talos/Tiber.

Regardless of ones feeling towards MK, he still writes for Beth as freelance writer, and The Imperial Library archives all things Elder Scrolls; which includes his work. Tiber is General Talos, and Talos is Tiber Septim. Tiber Septim the man is Hijalti Early-Beard, Talos being his Nordic name while Talos the God is made up of three distinct people.

I haven't read the wiki for a long time, but the last time I checked, it's not as extensive as the UESP, but slightly more indepth, if less accurate.

Edit: Also, holy [censored], Haute, I thought you were a completely new guy on the forums because of your avatar until I glanced at your username just now.

You realize the other websites do too in roughly equal amounts, right?

I don't mind what MK writes as long as it's in the games (or books). But if it's not, then it's not official, and if I get confused and learn unofficial stuff because of others not seeing the original fine distinguishable line between cannon and fan fiction then it annoys me. I'm not against the guy, but I'm against his opinion that he can write can write anything he wants and mark it as cannon. It's just not happening in my world, and I wanted to become a super lore buff, but if there's two different points of view or additional things that aren't cannon then it puts me off, big ass style. It's beyond me why anybody would want to accept unconfirmed writings as lore/cannon :?

What's this weird obsession with canon that has developed in so many communities? MK has a basic claim to canon for all of his works, and as long as I enjoy reading them, I will consider them non only canon, but some sort of godly super-canon. Godly. Super-cannons.

Because if it's not cannon, then it's not 'true'. No point learning the real stuff if you're gonna accept any man's story.
