UESP or Wikia?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:18 pm

Title pretty much says it all. I'm just curious as to which one is more reliable/best, from a historical perspective, i.e. those that followed up their content since the old days. Oh, and if you feel that neither is a good resource, please, share the love.

Cheers.

uesp tends to be better for quests and such.

If you want books/lore head to The Imperial Library

There tends to be more dialog examples at the wikia.

UESP has better organized more accurate information.

Wikia has more, faster, less accurate information

Both have their uses - I go to UESP first and then hit wikia if UESP doesn't have what I am looking for.

Historically, you can't even compare the two, UESP has everything old school elder scroll related

Good question. I am also looking at both of them and cannot decide which has the correct information sometimes. UESP seems a bit better though in my opinion, although I find it harder to navigate at times.

UESP for me. But I do go to the wikia when UESP doesn't have the information.

Since Skyrim came out, UESP will have random bouts of not loading...due to increased traffic I assume.

But I will use it when it loads. Wikia is the backup plan. (I've seen some straight up incorrect information there...so be wary of anything you read.)

I find that UESP is far, far more intuitive to navigate than the wikia is.

One thing that has been drawing me to UESP is the effectiveness of its search tool. It seems more to the point, taking me directly to desired information. Wikia just seems more fluffy, better looking but not as in-depth. However, one thing that Wikia has that I've been finding extremely useful: because we're in the early stages of Skyrim, there are lots of useful workaround tips for bugs in the Bugs section. It saved me a lot of pain, especially questwise.

I hate UESP. It's wrong far too often for my tastes.

Official wiki defaults to Oblivion, which annoys me. Always have to append _(Skyrim).

I'm not doubting you (just curious), but can you elaborate on that? You mean stats, quests, lore, all of it?

I use the UESP for my Morrowind and Oblivion needs, but prefer the Wikia for Skyrim.

At least at first it seemed like the wikia was more reliable for Skyrim-based comment, and was being updated faster to include quests, NPC's, etc. when Skyrim launched but that deficiency may have disappeared by now.

Quests and skills. It was a larger problem early release. It's probably been mostly fixed by now.

UESP's been around long before Wikia itself.
There shouldn't even be a Skyrim wikia. It's an insult.
