Ugly characters

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:53 am

In oblivion everyone was kinda off looking to an extent, and some npcs had some REALLY weird faces. No one was really "good looking" in Oblivion. Then in fallout 3, faces were way more realistic, and none as overthetop ugly as in oblivion. Now seeing some of the faces previewed for Skyrim, they look great! But will we still be able to create the ridiculously ugly characters we cherished in Oblivion? Will we encounter any in our travels?

Characters in New Vegas looked pretty good too. I'm sure we'll still be able to make weird looking people, but how far we can take it i'm not sure.

I think we will, just as in real life, there's always ugly folk around,It might be odd to walk around and see only handsome or pretty people.

I'm guessing that if you choose the right face presets, you will undoubtedly get an ugly face. But we'll have to see, they'll probably come out with a video highlighting the character customization thing closer to the release date. If not, 11/11/11.

I dunno, whenever a game has a lack of ugly looking characters (or characters that are supposed to be ugly but still look above average), I feel like I am watching a TV show, where even the ugly old crone is still a 6

If you go out of your way to make someone ugly, I'm sure it'd work, and I'm almost positive that Bethesda would have gone out of their way to make one or two ugly people in Skyrim. I mean, not EVERYONE can be beautiful in the entire country- this isn't California... That being said, I think that the changes to the NPC/Character features are more to make them "normal looking," not beautiful or pretty. In Oblivion, people didn't look like people- they looked like Sin and Bile had children- these edits are more to make NPCs look Realistic.

Orcs will still be in the game. Ugly right there. I don't want to see the level of ugliness Oblivion had, that was mostly because the face gen was odd.

I don't mind if they're ugly, as long as they're not ugly in a 'damn what a blurry looking face texture' way. Or just plain unrealistic shapes, odd skin colour, etc. There can be 'ugly' NPCs, but they should still have a realistic facial structure at the same time.

I'm actually slightly worried they might now be too beautiful.

See the only screenshot we've got of characters; a rugged bartender, a stunning brunette sweeping up and a bombshell blonde. I've got the oddest feeling Bethesda have gone too far in the 'good looking', and now everyone will be an FHM model.

I'm not worried. And if you're really that concerned, leave your comments for Vsions. He's a character artist at Beth that does frequent these forums. I'm sure he could make some ugly NPCs if you asked real nice.

Hell, I already asked him if I could make my PC look like Dom from GOW, or if he could at least make an NPC similar. lolz

If you can't make ugly characters in-game, the construction set would probably have the capability of doing so. I believe they are designing it so it is much easier to get a good-looking character, so making an "ugly" character may take some messing around in the character editor screen.

No need to worry fellow adventurers. We wouldnt take away the ability to make ugly characters, it wouldnt be a TES game without a few

heh just kidding but seriously we dont discriminate, ugly or beautiful

I think by ugly the OP meant weird and/or un-realistic, not necessarily physically unattractive.

I don't feel like we'll be seeing the same category of 'ugly' that Oblivion's face generator could create. There's ugly in the more natural sense, and then there's ugly in the 'I didn't know the human face and tone could be contorted this way.'

Actually, if you look at the Blonde in the tavern, her mouth is lined and creased. She's actually a bit more worn than she looks on first glance. Kinda well detailed actually, makes her look very realistic:

Saw a lot of videos of people making "monsters" in Oblivion.
It is quite easy.
Let's hope we get even better looking NPCs.

Thankyou! As long as I can make a character like this again, I'm happy:

And I want both of those types of ugly in.
