Ugly Elves

Post » Wed Jul 30, 2014 10:01 pm

I bought Skyrim in the recent x-box 360 game sale and have been playing about getting a feel for the game but almost the first thing I noticed was when booting up the game for the first time was just how ugly the elf head models are. So much for me playing a dark elf female.

I'm sure some one will come along a and prove me wrong :)

Enjoying the game otherwise.

well they are elves not humans

and the stereotyping of elves as the perfect beautifull species you find so much in modern literature is ( LOTR and the AD& D novels ) obvious not the line bethesda followed

tho if you spend some more times in the character creation youcan come up with some good looking ones

I though that the elf head models in NWN2 were ugly but they've got nothing on the Skyrim elves. At least I found a head model I liked for my Chaotic Good female Drow Necromancer :)

I thought they were quite ugly too, at least the presets for the character creation screen.

The Altmer have this massive chins and look like they are developing elephantitis. The Dunmer just look...off. While the Bosmer look ancient and weird.

However, I have met Elf characters in the game who I thought looked fine so I think the presets are just rubbish.

True but I was talking about a NWN2 PC of mine who's a dark elf (Drow)

Personally I like the look. I think they look a whole lot better than Elves in Oblivion. Elves in Oblivion had the same encephalitic, bulbous, balloon heads we saw on the human races. Elves in Skyrim seem to me to be a stylistic return to the more alien appearance of Elves in Morrowind.

Personal opinion and preferences.

If you want to play drow a Forgotten Realms based game would be a better bet.

Personally I didn't think the NWN2 choices were all that great.

true i fully agreed , but the beauty of skyrim is that you can ,

the lore and world background isn't all that important on what sort of character you want to play

The orcs were the worst. They looked like watermelons with faces on them

Most presets look rather bad, not just the elves (but so do the ones in most other games I've played  )

I too thought the elves were ugly at first, but I liked that they were ugly. I think they are the best elves I've seen.

Edit: ladyonthemoon, your character looks great btw.

That doesn't look like an XBOX elf. The OP bought the XBOX version. Heck with mods elves can look great.

But in non-modded XBOX, yeah they all look too old and ugly. I wanted for a long time to just make a young looking elf, but those dang forehead wrinkles make that impossible.

Ah you play on xbox, so you're not able to use mods...

Without mods (didn't want to spend hours on it), I managed to make a meh-looking high elf (next time I'll just go Khajiit and not get bothered), she's ok, not great looking, but not ugly/deformed/manly. I couldn't do better than meh, so I just kept that and now I use a complete set of the awesome nightingale armor, which has a hood that completely covers my character face.

So: if you want to play an elf, cover his face with head armor and it's k :)

Oblivion had the same ugly problem, but even worse and for all races.

Hopefully TES VI will be better. Idk maybe they could hire some experts who made Lara Croft or something. It gets boring to play so ugly champions you have to hide their face.

Elves can look pretty good. I usually go with a shorter chin and smaller nose, basically making them look closer to human. It does me quite a bit of time though, and I usually have to see the face sculptor a couple times to perfect them (the lighting down there friggin svcks).

Yeah I don't know why they always make us create our characters in the dark. Normal daytime lighting settings would be better.

That first High Elf preset made me not play as an Altmer for a year. Damn was the scary.

I don't try to make beautiful characters but I think my Bosmer Rhaweth- http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx34/lordtru/20140420_161819_zpsb769f005.jpg,http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx34/lordtru/20140420_161722_zps030800ef.jpg is sixy in a "I'll kill you" sort of way :P

These are pics from my old phone pointed at my TV, she looks better in my living room.

You have to play with the sliders, you can make an Orc woman look halfway decent- http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx34/lordtru/20140712_015223_zps4aa6e701.jpg (again going for badass over beauty but she's pretty for an Orc imo)

They are not modded!

I find insulting that you infer that I'm using mods.

Heh so it is possible to do an elf that's not ugly. Who would have though? :)

I must admit I have thought about getting the PC version of Skyrim but it's unlikely as I dislike Steam.

So, you'll allow Steam to spoil your life? It's giving them too much importance, isn't it? ;)
