Ugly Female Chr.

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 5:47 am

As a female gamer, I'd say:

Set 1: First Pic (the second pic would be my choice if she wasn't touching herself... though that is just because I prefer the art style, not the clothing >.>)
Set 2: First Pic
Set 3: First Pic

Obviously from the options, you are going for "fully clothed, or scantily clad" my vote generally speaking is fully clothed, but the fully armoured woman in the first choice is just creepy looking >.> (and the second option is obviously touching herself... so it was really a toss up).

Women can be beautiful without being six objects, I like to be able to play a strong warrior woman and have armor that fits that role (I don't want belly shirts for armour!). But I want to be able to have my warrior woman have a beautiful face, and be shapely if I desire (and on the opposite side, I want to be able to make a muscle bound scared woman as well). Aion sixifies their women to the extreme, I don't really want that... sure it can be an option for the six deprived youths that need it, w/e I don't really care, as long as I have the option to make a realistic woman character as well (who can be beautiful, or not, at my discretion).

Reason i did those pictures is because for me personally there is no middle ground.
Either their armor is actual armor, or they're just completely ridiculous.
Especially for an environment as harsh as Skyrim.

But the 2nd and 3rd Uno are beautiful women though and a beatutiful face can be done with Skyrims sliders. :)
Anyway, the purpose of the pictures was to see how certain players want female warriors to be portrayed in a fantasy game.
I prefer Uno all the way, but certain characters that has very high emphasis on their sixuality, like a black widow character, would make sense to be dressed as a Dos.
Like the desire demons for Dragon Age Origins, they're suppose to seduce people and deceive them, makes sense for them to be the way they are.

As for the first Uno, women should be able to be creepy looking as well.

I just want to point out that the female Chr. in this game and all the other elder scrolls and fallout games they do a horrible job at the female Chr looks. Let me know if you agree.

Every time I see "chr" I think of some kind of phonetic animal uttering.

Anyway, plenty of females look just fine.

Just wanted to say: Sapphire, Olfina Graymane, Saadia, Mjoll the Lioness, Lydia, the High Queen, the Jarl of Riften, Aela the Huntress, Carlotta Valentina, Hroki, Susanne the Wicked.

That is all, I think I've made my case.

The women have some lines on their faces, but that fits the setting. Saw some lookers in Whiterun in my mate's playthru. The cocky 'strong Nord woman' and the dark-skinned chick serving at the tavern. She even had scars....

The daughter of the Jarl of Morthal. Dayummm.

I wish she was marriageable. Not only do I appreciate her exotic look, I like the fact that she is somewhat crazy.

Ladies and gentlemen, the polls are open, now vote.
What should females in a fantasy game look like?'

Im not going to say anything but what they "should" be like.. But just in comparing the photos I'd have to say Dos, dos and dos.... err wait... let me recheck that last one... Yeah Dos. Also wow... totally missed that one had the lady touching herself.. The decider for me was that her counterpart looked flatout scary lol.

Nice to see the comments continue... sort of.

It occurred to me after I posted here that there might be some misunderstanding, so I want to clarify one thing and offer one more example.

I doubt that anyone is saying that all characters should look attractive or offer a visual aesthetic similar to some East Asian games. No, what I and others are pointing out is that there is no CHOICE despite Beth's constant claims that we have CHOICE. We don't, and never have in their games, except for mods on PC. Heck, we can't even alter our character's hair color shading in Skyrim, and this was offered in both Oblivion and FO3, so it's a step backwards in choice, not forwards. Guild Wars is a Western-developed MMO with excellent character aesthetics, including a very wide variety of choices, tones, colors, builds, etc. GW 2 looks to outdo the first game, too, at least in this regard. It isn't only East Asian artists who can do such work, it's just that Western developers seem to force the idea that "realistic" is what is wanted despite claiming to offer choice. The avatars here and elsewhere as well as mod download stats sort of clarify that this isn't at all a unique preference in Beth's games, too, so it isn't like they haven't been told this for 10+ years (since Morrowind, at least).

As another example of a game franchise with a setting similar to Skyrim but with far more variety of character aesthetics, consider Valkyrie Profile from Tri-Ace. Just the first game in the franchise had about 24 characters who had a very broad variety of visual styles, backgrounds, personalities, etc. Think about Beth's history and whether or not any of their characters are remembered distinctly. No, they really aren't, at least not on a broad scale, because they do not create empathy within the pkayer. Beth's environments, on the other hand, are very widely remembered. Likewise, anyone who loves Norse mythology in games has almost certainly heard of Lenneth of Valkyrie Profile, and anyone who has played the game certainly remembers her. She is very memorable on many levels, even from the opening scenes. There's a lesson there for Western developers.

You even need to ask? Dos all the way. Without the, er... bordering parental troublesome pose of course

I can say that the female characters do not make me stare at 'em, but surely they can do better. I mean, the way they look like now? Living zombies. pvssyring, living zombies

Valkyrie Profile is pretty classic JRPG style. Dunno what you're on about here. It may be toned down compared to some other games but still very much that style. Also, just because you don't remember characters from the Elder Scrolls series doesn't mean others here don't as well.

I guess I’m just use to playing my MMO, (Aion) which I think has awesome looking characters.

Played AION for awhile....Got sick of being jumped and ganked all the time while questing....LOL otherwise good game in all.

They look fine. Does TC want all the ladies of this game to be superhot models in scantly clad dresses?

Every woman in the game looking and sounding like a pre-teen girl in a skirted schoolgirl outfit doesn't appeal to me. I like Scandinavian women, scars, tattoos and piercings so... I'm fine with this.

Yes, the general female population in Skyrim is just fine. Especially the diversity. I always had issues with games where 90% of folks were one ot of ten template replications.
Not trying to hijack the thread or anything - I just think they should make the presets a bit more diverse so that I could have a good looking character myself. It doesn't matter if I take 5 hours or a 1000, my character will still look like fox dung because I have no designer skills. After all - I'm playing a god. And gods look beautiful (at least in my mind they do) :D
