Is Ultimate edition worth it?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 9:23 am

I played New Vegas, and enjoyed it, but i never bought it. Im thinking of getting Ultimate edition when it comes out, but is it worth it? I have Skyrim and freaking love it, but how much is New Vegas like Skyrim? So, what do you guys think?

Game+ DLC = £50.

Ultimate Edition = £40.

Worth it.

Depends, what are you playing on? It's a good buy anyway, but PC users have access to a large amount of (pretty good) mods.

However, New Vegas isn't anything like Skyrim. New Vegas is all about story and characters. There are not a million 'favor' quests. There is no magic or shouts. No "perk tree" (though there are great perks you can get at every other level up). New Vegas has a skill point system and there are skill checks. Weapons and armor degrade. In short, Skyrim and New Vegas are practically night and day. New Vegas is a great RPG however and, in my honest opinion, better than Skyrim.

The post above me says it all.
Skyrim is NOTHING like Fallout NV.
I look at skyrim as the game for people who THINK they like RPGs, but really it's like the [censored] half brother of the RPG genre.

$50. That's 30 bucks for the base game and 20 for the add ons, at least to me. Seems like a good deal.

I was thinking Ultimate Edition could be made even more epic by throwing in a type of 'easter egg' revealing something for the next Fallout, like a letter talking about a city, or something cool like this.

If you're a console player and don't want to, or can't, DL the add-ons, then it's probably worth it if you're interested enough in the expanded stories that just add to the Mojave and things like that. They answer a lot of questions and rumors, put out by the base game, and personally I find them all fun in their own right. Most people have a preference for one over the others, or whatever, but I think they're all fun.

For the price, it's worth it.

it matters what console you are buying it for, such as ps3 xbox or pc. if you were buying it for xbox or pc, i would not suggest it, i used to have it for the xbox and the game got dull quickly. I recently bought it for the pc and am insanely addicted, there are tons of free mods that can be mistaken for an addon. I believe someone said it above that the price for the ultimate edition was 40$ and if you were to buy the game + all the dlc's it would equal 50$. So yes i believe it is a good deal.

Summary: buy it for pc and it is a good deal

if you have the game and most of the DLC's already, no.

If you have the game and don't have any of the DLC's, yes.

If you don't have the game, hell yes.

Why does almost all fonv threads have skyrim randomly popping up?
Any how fonv has some similarities at a glance and have a similar structer as in how you level up how to obtain quests etc but .Well they have a similar skeleton but they are fleshed out very differently, tho both are great.

To summarise just get fonv.

fallout nv has some cool dlc, it actually has a story behind it all which is really cool and i looked forward to each installment over the summer as they were released, and it is like 40 bucks worth of dlc so thats always cool...actually the base game is 20, and the dlc is 40...so i guess it doesn't matter its still the same price...unless my math is whack

Will there be any exclusive content of any kind in the Ultimate edition? I'm trying to figure out why it would sell when Steam has sold all of the DLC bundled for $11 and the game for (I think $15; right now it's marked at 19.99).

Obviously the target audience are those that never bought it, or it's price will be around $30 ~or it doesn't make sense to me.

** I would buy the full retail Ultimate Edition despite having the New Vegas CE and all the DLC already, if...
they would just release it for PC without Steam ~the exact same way that Bethesda released Fallout 3.

At one point Steam sold the base game for $5.00 and each DLC for $2.50 (except GRA whith was $0.99 and CS which was $0.50). So during that sale you could get all of the content in the Ultimate Edition for $33.50 less than the Ultimate Edition price. And there isn't any exclusive content in the Ultimate Edition either.

Makes the Ultimate Edition kind of pointless for PC players.

Then if it's their last gasp for the game, then I really do hope they consider a Steamless version for the PC; at this point its old enough not to care too much, and could additionally net them the sales of those who won't (or can't) use a Steam wrapped game.

If I had that, then I could uninstall Steam.

** I'm surprised they did not plan a last [even very minor] DLC to be included in their NV:Ultimate.

Yes, though it pales into comparison to FO:NV + DLC during the winter steam sale, which came to a grand total of $20 for the lot.

I would love a Steamless version as well, since Steam keeps re-installing NV without my permission. :stare:

A minor DLC would have been a good idea imo, as it would give people (like me) who already have all the DLC on one platform but don't have them on a second platform incentive to buy the Ultimate Edition. I only have two of the DLCs for PC, so I considered buying the Ultimate Edition for PC, but I decided that I really didn't need it since I have already played through all of the DLCs on the ps3 version. Now if the Ultimate Edition were to come with a minor DLC, I would probably buy it. I don't know if that's true for a lot of people, but I think, overall, adding a minor DLC would have been beneficial for sales.

I'm in this situation because I loathe purchasing things online that I'll never physically own and I don't like putting my account number online. Still it's a lot of money thrown away, but owning FONV before was totally worth it.
