Ultimate Follower Overhaul - No MCM Menu?

Post » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:54 am

Hi everyone,

I have UFO installed and I'm a few hours into my first modded playthrough, but just realized that I do not have an MCM menu for UFO. I did many test runs before starting this play through but I'm not sure if I ever remember there being an MCM menu for UFO or not.

Is there any way that I can try and get the menu to appear and be functional? I'm running the latest version of SkyUI and SKSE, and in terms of UFO itself I downloaded the main file here (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=new_post&f=183), along with the DG, DB, and Hearthfire Add-on files. I did not get the "compatibility" version because I was unsure if I was supposed to or not.

So in terms of UFO plugins, I have:

UFO - Ultimate Follower Overhaul.esp

UFO - Dragonborn AddOn.esp

UFO - Dawnguard AddOn.esp

UFO - Hearthfire AddOn.esp

Thanks!

The version of UFO you have does not have an MCM--it's from November 2012, which was before the SkyUI release that first included the MCM system in January 2013.

(Technically MCM was in beta for a while so it's not impossible that a mod from late 2012 would have one, but fLokii's UFO doesn't. Vamyan added one for the newer "compatibility version" of UFO, but I have no idea what the status of that is.)

Oh I see, thanks.

So which version would I install in order to get the MCM? The one under "updates" that says it's the compatibility version?

Ah, I see that I sort of screwed up with this install. So what I should do is:

-Update to the "Compatibility version" 1.2j.

-Get rid of the DG AddOn since it isn't compatible with the updated version

That should also make my Dragonborn AddOn no longer conflict since it isn't compatible with the version I have right now.

Any advice on how to do this as cleanly as possible? In terms of uninstall/re-install order? Do you think a change like this would require a new game?

UFO is a fossil.

Use EFF instead.

Thanks, I looked into that and it seems pretty easy to install. Do you think that if I simply uninstalled all components of UFO entirely (disbanding in-game followers first) and then installed EFF I'll have any issues? Would doing something that drastic require a new game?

UFO Has a way of uninstalling itself for just that reason.

Go to riverwood, over to the lumbermill, over by that huge stump (where Ralof would take you and meet with his sister if you bailed him out of helgen) and you'll notice a torchbug that's floating there (not flying around like the others). Talk to that twice and that will uninstall the mod for you.

On top of that there's always the Save Fixer.

Oh so *that's* what that firefly is for! So that will uninstall itself and all add-on components, or just the mod itself? And before I use the firefly, should I dismiss my follower?

You should probably dismiss all your followers, yes.

I'm not sure if it'll remove all the addon components or just the mod. Or if that even matters.

Basically: make a backup save, dismiss all companions, go to the firefly, use it to uninstall the mod, quit skyrim, get rid of all the UFO stuff, start skyrim, save, quit, run the save through http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/? to clean up any leftover remnants from UFO, then install EFF and rehire your companions.

(Note if you're using custom companions with custom voices such as Inigo or Cerwin or the Interesting NPCs followers, you should also pick up the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41524/? mod. If you're just using vanilla followers or simple followers with vanilla voicesets you should be fine without it.)

Thanks a lot for the directions I'm going to give that a try. I am using interesting NPCs and I think my current follower is from that mod so I'll definitely get the compatibility mod. And I didn't know about save fixer but I'll use that as well, is it easy enough to run?

Sure, it's simple enough to figure out on its own.

Just open the save in question, hit "Fix all", then hit "Fix Scripts", then save. It'll automatically make a backup so you don't have to worry about doing that prior (you do want to make a backup before uninstalling UFO though).

Remember: you want to run that on the UFO-Less save, not on the save before you remove UFO, otherwise it won't work.

Don't mess around with the other options though.

Actually, just one more thing, I'm using both a bashed patch as well as a dual sheath redux patch, do you think those will be at all effected by this? I'm like 99% sure that UFO didn't do anything to leveled lists so as far as I know it wasn't in the bashed patch so I'm assuming it'll be fine to just leave them both as-is?

Bashed Patch:

1. Why are you using bashed patch? TES5Edit Merged Patch is much more up to date than bash patch (despite also being abanoned.) BP only covers leveled lists, MP covers things like keywords, weapon stats, etc. as well.

2. I would repatch anyway, if you chose to stick with bashed patch. Better safe than sorry.

Ditto with Dual Sheath.

I'd advice against using a merged patch. Personally, I get a CTD on game load when trying to use one and Sharlikran doesn't support it: "First merge patch isn't supported. If it works for you, and you have enough knowledge of plugins to make your own adjustments, then feel free to use it." I'd say that currently it's only advisable for users who know exactly what to edit in the created merged patch.

Untrue. UFO is a final product which does not need any further improvement. It is updated to the latest Skyrim patch including DLCs support. Just make sure to get the last version Looki uploaded. UFO doesn't need a MCM menu. It's highly immersive, functional and has a seamingless integration into the game. Something that neither AFT nor EFF achieves, because they're still in heavy development and, at least one of them, a sure bug fest.

Use bashed patch not merged patch.
