[WIP] Ultimate Gemstone Collection

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:20 am

Since I have released my Better Gems for MW mod, I thought that this mod should be the next installment to my little mod series that I have going on with my gemstones. This mod will have 150+ gemstones and a high-class snooty little merchant that will sell them to you. Keep in mind that this merchant will be very picky. He is very knowledgeable in appraising gemstones. Xell started out selling his custom gemstones from his main store in Hammerfell and then had gotten a interesting idea of branching his store out throughout Vvardenfell. Xell has a store in every major city that trades goods from far away places. There will be a sort of a main quest for this mod to help Xell expand further by finding rare gemstones all over Vvardenfell. Xell has several assistants (including you) that help him to keep his store fronts in order. As you quest for these rare gems, Xell will teach you the basics in how to sort out the "real" gems from just minerals that come from sedimentary rock.

So should you help Xell expand his empire of fine jewelry and gemstones, gradually working your way up to becoming a store owner and business partner?

This looks awesome, and being a fan of shiny gems and the like, I can't wait to play it. Nice work :D

Thank you Slaanesh! This is another mod that I have been meaning to put out for awhile but never really got a chance to work on it productively.

Yea, I can certainly understand that feeling! Well, let me know if I can help anyhow. I'm never modeled gems or anything, but I could probably help out with some decorations if you wished for it. Just send me a PM if you need anything :D

Sure thing! So far I have gotten almost all of the jewelry props done (I need to finish up the necklace prop) and now I am doing some retexes of the in_c_rich interiors. Here is a list of what I am going to retex in that set:

in_c_rich_room_center
in_c_rich_room_corner
in_c_rich_r_cwin_bay_01
in_c_rich_r_cwin_bay_02
in_c_rich_r_swin_bay_01
in_c_rich_r_swin_rec_01
in_c_rich_room_entry
in_c_rich_r_cwin_rec_01
in_c_rich_r_cwin_rec_02

There won't be any exterior buildings due to the fact that it may conflict with other mods. :(

I will need help with some dialogue scripting as I am still very newb to scripting as a whole. Things like the Journal entries for quests, adding and removing things from the player's inventory.

Ah, well I can do that well enough. Just send me a PM when you get to that point and I'll help you out somehow.

Ok I got the reflective marble flooring to work in MW, but whenever I apply the reflection map and test it in game I get a weird purple line that goes across the floor. Not sure what is causing this but I will show what I am talking about:

http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/silver_fox_rival/YouTube%20Videos/?action=view¤t=ReflectiveMarbleFlooring.mp4

When I tried a regular reflection on my floor no purple lines showed up at all. I think it is because MW can't handle blurred reflection maps???

A little something I worked on today:

Just need to add some tiebacks and texturing and this puppy will be in-game in no time. ;)

I have the main store's interior built and just need to add clutter. I will be doing a store front in each city, from Seyda Neen to Mournheld (correct spelling). Looking forward to building Mournheld's store front. It's gonna be tons of fun to build. :D

No I am not done yet with the interior. I still have more things to work on before it's done.

Okay. You mentioned "just" needing to add some clutter, and with that, I'm sitting here thinking: "Clutter? How about some real lighting first?" :P

So do you have any suggestions for this "real" lighting that you have mentioned? As in settings? Or better yet, produce the numbers and I'll add it to the interior.

Since you were the one complaining about the lighting and all I want you to be the one to come up the lighting. This is still a WIP. Or else it would have been named [REL] Ultimate Gemstone Collection. So if you want me to make the changes, come up with the values. Ya know if you were trying to help out or not.

Look, as I'm sure you've seen before, some people make their interiors way too bright, or way too dark, and I couldn't possibly know if you're one of them, so I asked. I wasn't thinking that you're incompetent, just afraid that you might be. Keep in mind that my exposure to your work thus far is Better Gems, which, while good, doesn't require the same set of skills as building an interior. So the only way to know was to inquire.

I also took your "just need to add clutter" comment too literally.

I've built interiors before and played with all of the settings for it. As far as being incompetent, you need not worry about that. What I suggest you do tho, is try worrying about yourself and not if I am being incompetent with my mod. As far as you taking things literally is your fault not mine.
