Ultra mode = SSAO/SSDO/etc disabled?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 12:30 am

Hi guys, I noticed that when running in Ultra mode, r_ssao is set to 0, yet r_ssaoquality is defaulted to 3? I had to manually set r_ssao to a value of 2 to get SSAO running.

Also, why does r_ssao 3 and r_ssao 4 give me strange graphical glitches, like black specks of dirt are permanently stuck onto my helmet that I can't wipe off no matter where I am in game?

Running on GTX 480, latest drivers, six-core AMD CPU, 8 GB RAM. Windows 7 64 bit.

There is a separate variable for SSDO that you can't change in the console. When you use the graphics menu to set Shading to 'Ultra', or punch sys_spec_shading = 4 into the console, SSDO is enabled. At the same time, SSAO is disabled. You can enable SSAO on top of SSDO, but it sounds like you're getting graphical glitches when you do that.

What we really need is to have access to variables that control the new DX11 features.
