Same here Meghan! I hope with Confirmed Bachelor or Cherchez Le Femme(Yes, I said that) you can go on a crazy love spree with Ulysses. The screen goes black like you do with Benny, but you wake up 10 days later.

Black Widow...since Ulysses lacks the parts to use the Cherchez le Femme perk

@GoodOlPunchaw

I was making a reference to Family Guy...I won't mention what episode, I'd probably get an addition to my warn status.

And then you get the "Once you go black..." perk

You have received the "Once you go Black" perk! Any weapon with a strength requirement of 7 or more gains a +15% damage bonus and weight 5 pounds less, but any weapon with a strength requirement of 5 and under grants a -15% damage bonus and gains +5 pounds!

I have the impression that the reason Ulysses is after the Courier is more or less philosophical in nature. Ulysses perceives himself and the courier as two people who will fundamentally alter the course of humanity and Ulysses wants to kill the courier so his vision of a post apocalyptic society can come to pass.

I don't think so, if only because Ulysses doesn't seem to *have* a vision of a post apocalyptic society. That's rather the point behind him roaming around everywhere and asking all those questions. Remember the quote from him about how he'll lay down his flag when he finds a society worth supporting?

I think it's possible that a philosophical dispute might enter the equation, but I'm fairly certain (based on Avellone's comments) that Ulysses's issue with the Courier has to do with something the Courier has already done (an action he's already taken), not what he thinks he might do, nor what he might represent.

I furthermore think the catastrophic event which struck the Divide unearthed something. Something Ulysses found. Something or someone buried (by the Courier?)

I'm going to throw in my two cents for whatever it's worth.

Ulysses had no hate in his voice, but Rodger Cross stated he is more experienced and wiser. Perhaps he is keeping calm about it. We know for sure they are enemies/rivals because of the Dead Money ending.

@Little Beard: Correct. Avellone has stated the Courier had done something. I don't know though.

It was also stated the relationship between them would be greatly unexpected. We can cross out things such as; relatives, lovers, etc. It is greatly shrouded. But we know the Courier knows the Lonesome Road, since Ulysses stated he knows the way.

He certainly implied the Courier may have done something to set Ulysses off, but yeah, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it was an action the Courier took.

I formerly believed that the Courier might be from this region. Possibly originating from the town of Hopeville.

I'm now beginning to think that the Courier might not be from there at all, but that he knows the area because he once made a delivery there. A package, with something in it. Something that the Courier delivered blindly. Some sort of homing beacon or some other bit of technology that allowed the Think Tank to target that region for the meteorological experiment that ripped the region apart.

Wow, I think that's really it. That makes so much sense!

Just throwing random thoughts out:

America sleeps. And until it's dead, I carry it. Just like I carried you. More than hope. Belief.
-Ulysses to Christine Royce

This statement always stood out to me. It is powerful and I think important with respect to what Ulysses beliefs are and what his future goals are for the post apocolyptic US and the final battle/dialogue with the Courier. Simply that the Old World America is out there and just needs to be awakened. But what makes him so special and Courier? What abilities does he have to change the fate of a Nation?

What if Ulysses is a distant relation of a famous/influential person pre-war as well as the Courier but of opposing political/social ideologies? I am not American so I am not well versed in its history or I would provide an example.

Also, both are/were Couriers, is this mere coincidence? Not likely, is this somehow the connecting thread. Perhaps both from the same settlement, childhood friends, but a falling out occurs. Perhaps the theory that the Courier (most likely unknowingly) wronged Ulysses (or family) by way of a simple delivery. Small action has enormous repercussions afterschool special type lesson!

What makes a Nation? I don't know, I have been trolling around to find an answer. There are many thoughts and complicated theories but the one I found most intriguing and oddly enough the simpliest was Will, the will to be united.

Perhaps a Hatfields vs. McCoys type feud long standing over generations?

Same here. I went and read some stuff on the wiki and based on what I have seen there and in OWB this may be the most logical answer we have at the moment.

Good show, Little Beard
