Ulyssess' travels

Post » Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:20 am

Ulysses is one of the more well traveled people of the mojave, he found the sierra madre and the big empty, after which he found out technology isnt going to help his goals concerning the divide... And what would he have gained from these places...
My guess is he found a means to complete his goals in the sierra madre, then traveled to big mt because it was the source of the technology in the sierra madre.

And in 10 days he will contact you because you are the last thing needed for his plan...

Alqso do You think the experiment in the divide is poseidon energy- related? Since ulysses and poseidon both feature references to ancient greece, my theory is the sierra madre and big mt resemble places in the odyssey and ulysses (as odysseus) is working againsy poseidon. Also the fact that his name is latin for odysseus might be a reference to ceasars legion. :spotted owl:

We never saw proof of Ulysses finding the Sierra Madre, just that he knew of it's existence as more than myth.

Perhaps he got that info from Christine? She hadn't been there yet, but I don't think it ever said what exactly attracted her there.

The connection with The Odyssey and Ulysses as a name stemming from the Legion seem solid. With the stuff about Ciphers, I'm still betting Ulysses was one of them, and at least the division of the tribe that Ulysses was in was conquered by the Legion.

Here's how I see his travels:

Wolfhorn ranch to Big Mt.
Big Mt. to The Divide

I think it says he knew the location of the Mojave in one of Elijah's holotapes, for he directed him and Christine to it.

Possibility of him being a Cipher? I say high. He has no allegiance to the NCR or Legion, and wants to see the Old World Government rise above them once more.

Could this 'Old World Government' be The Enclave? We have yet to find out.

Agreed, I wonder if maybe Ulysses met Caesar and told him of his life, Caesar being well read on mythology and various things philisophical, named him Ulysses in fitting. Just a theory anyway.

Roger Cross described the character as a bit more wise and experienced that the main character, which likely means that he has seen a lot. Seeing a lot in the wasteland is generally because of travel. So I don't think it's as limited as that. As for the Enclave, they best stay out of this. I'm really, really sick of them.

That sounds pretty likely. Or it may have to do with Caesar seeing some sort of drive in him that Odysseus is described as having, and that's why he made him a frumentarii.

Agreed. If a character as seemingly profound as Ulysses has motives as shallow as the Enclave's "kill all the non-purists for no reason", I'll lose most faith in Obsidian. If the Enclave is in LR for any reason, I'd say it will only be related to ED-E's uprgades, though I have a theory that upgrades for ED-E were created by Ciphers when ED-E passed through the Divide.

Do you mean that Ulysses was told about the sierra madre from Elijah? Elijah was told about the radio signal and he tracked it down, because he knows his electronics!

Whatever happens we will learn everything from the holotapes in the Divide.

Ulysses never went to the Sierra Madre, he just told Christine about it.
