Umbra

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:36 pm

Umbra is the name of the sword that was created by an evil witch long long ago (she was killed for crating such a thing of evil) The sword appears and disappears periods at a time, choosing it weilder. It thirsts for one thing and one thing only, the extinction of all life. Whoever takes up the sword also takes up the name. Thats roughly how the story goes and im a HUGE fan. I would sooo love to see this unique sword appear in skyrim, how about you all?

Yes, but it should be a dagger. For just no known reason.

I don't see why it shouldn't appear.

I just hope it's one in a large list of artifact weapons making non quest appearances.

Of course! But only make Umbra appear In a quest or something, a level 1 could walk up to umbra in oblivion, turn the difficulty down and kite her around slinging flares or arrows at her (or by back peddling) pick up umbra and her armour and its easy street from then.

Yeah they need to make her/him incredibly hard, we should have to work for such an artifact!! Maybe the quest will be given by umbra themself, that would be interesting!

Considering Umbra is heavily involved with IC I think it's place in the game will be decided with the next novel.

Umbra is an "it"
Umbras carriers have a gender like Umbra's carrier in Morrowind was a male orc while Umbra's carrier in Oblivion was a female bosmer.

Spoiler
In Morrowind Umbra asks you to give him a warriors death so it wont be that strange

Do you think it will be tied into Clavicus Vile's quest like in Oblivion, or more random like in Morrowind?

Well, it would be disappointing if it didn't. What with the constant changing of carrier, there's room for creativity here too.

I'm hoping for something different this time, like finding out that Umbra is carried by some NPC you already know and like, and it's driving him/her slowly crazy, and you discover why during a quest (maybe given by concerned relatives, I don't know). And anyway, you're left with the option to either leave him/her be, or kill him/her, both choices having serious consequences. Umm, anyway, a plot twist like that. :P

Plus the sword should drive you nuts too, if you choose to carry it. Like having no longer the option to solve conflicts by talking nor sneaking out. Or having to kill people or the sword starts to leech on your abilities.

I don't know, but that quest was buggy as hell on the Xbox. I hope that gamesas makes sure to fix things like that before making the game available to the public.

Anyway, I hope that Umbra is tied into a Daedric quest (I can't imagine it being done any other way, honestly. Why would random townspeople know Umbra?) but I'd like it to be a long, difficult quest.

I'm fine with being able to walk up to Umbra at level 1, as long as he/she is not scaled to your level.

Since the game supposedly takes place 200 years after Oblivion, Umbra must be -something- since it pwned Clavicus vile and ended up with a peice of him.

Maybe some dead Nord nobleman was buried with it and it's been laying, alone and forgotten, in a shadowy crypt for the last century until one day, a hapless Dragonborn falls through a hole in cave right into the Nord's burial tomb where he stumbles upon the sword and reclaims it.

I'd like to see all the Tamrielic artifacts in the game, maybe even some new ones...and I'd like them not to be scaled, and not all tied to quests.

Ohh I really like the consequence idea about using the sword! I think the sword should be picked up by someone powerful this time, not just some random NPC. Divayth Fyr perhaps? lol I dont think he'd be so stupid. Something that'll give you the sense of real danger though.

I would just like to see a dungeon of some kind with the umbra sword equipped on the boss of the dungeon, a reward for exploring around.

Of course Umbra will make an appearance! It's the most famous weapon in TES.

I really hope it's not even a quest. Maybe the current Umbra just wanders the forests of Skyrim, slaying all the it see's. You would have to seek out the current Umbra and destroy it to claim the sword for yourself. But of course, it would be a difficult battle, even for a high level character.

Umbra is at the center of the two novels, so whether or not it will show up really depends on what happens there. If the spirit bound to the sword is freed or destroyed, it probably either won't show up, or won't have the power it did.
