I chose a Dunmer Warrior, and Long Blade as what I preferred using. Then 2 mins into the tutorial I come across an imp which I can't hit ("Your weapon is ineffective") or run past - the damn hitbox is to big.

You just have to run past the imp as fast as you can.

As I said, I can't run past it - I just bump into it because the hitbox is so big.

Ahh, done it - lured him into a side door, then ran for it. Thx for help.

No problem. I had troubles at first too getting past that imp.
