Unable to download patch

Post » Fri Oct 29, 2010 11:29 pm

I downloaded the complete NV game from Xbox Live via Games On Demand, and only the 1.2 patch downloads, not the 1.3

I cleared system cache and redownloaded the patch- it is only the 1.2 patch.

This might be related to the current problems the patch is having/causing. I'd give it a day or two, then see if you can aquire patch 1.3.

EDIT - Yeah, friends of mine are having the same problem.

As with the last poster, because of all the issues and possible inability to play the game once you receive the update, Hun, you don't wanna get the update.

I thought the only problem with the update is that old saves get messed up. I plan on starting a new game anyways, so 1.3 issues shouldn't bother me.

Well this is true, but there can be more than one facet to this bug. All I'm saying is it's wierd that you're running into this the same time everyone else is having the save issues.

Whoa, if this is true, please let me know NOW. I've logged over 100hrs according to the game, I've been doing this since November and I'm NOT willing to re-start anything. I'm actually laughing at myself for even bothering to look into the web and sign on to a forum for all this. I don't require apologies, blanket PR responses, or any of that, just a simple response whether old saves are playable or not, thank you.

Well, if in your case you are unable to load your files, then don't. If you have yet to acquire the patch, then wait. It has already been said that the patch is being worked on to perform as intended. A day or two and you should be back to FONV and it's new patched things.

This is, however against Antler whom is telling me that Bethesda and obsidian will not have a patch for a long time, but after all, he is just a Brahmin skull. OR IS HE?!

It seems it's different for a lotta people. Some people get the message, and can still play; others get the message, and freeze after loading; while others still get the message, freeze, uninstall DM, re install DM, and then they're fine to play, and lastly, there are people who find that deleting and reapplying the patch, or just simply leaving the patch deleted, allows them to play again, uninhibited.

I see, yes, I downloaded the poison patch and get freezing loads everytime, both manual and auto saves. Thanks for this info, end of the line for me.

I suggest the in the mean time, uninstall the latest patch and wait until either tomorrow or Saturday and you should have the appropriate 1.3 patch that will work. I hope that it's released soon, even though I'm not affected, I feel for you as I was a victim of the original DLC bug that broke my best file.

Hold on, not that I haven't tried clearing the cache and uninstalling the patch but even when this fix for a patch is eventually released, it will not recover my past saves, both manual and auto, correct? Or I am confused, I was ready to dump the game pronto.

No no no. If I'm correct, and I believe I am, when the new patch is implemented, your saves *should* work. Including your auto saves.

Seems like the likely scenario, as long as it's just freezing and not corrupted, the files are save-able.

Well there would be no other reason any save files would become corrupt without this patch (since they played fine before) so are you suggesting that it is possible that save files have indeed become corrupted?

Well, there have been a few people complaining about corrupted files, but then again, it is a bug, and the exact nature, well, the complete nature of it anyway, may not be seen. For all we know the bug and the people complaining about the corruption are connected, though on the same coin, they might be totally unrelated and the end result of an act of frustration.

For instance, if the bug causes it to freeze while saving, and you shut off the system... you're likely to corrupt the file.

My problem is with loading but can you forsee that causing the same type of corrupting that occurs if the game were to freeze while saving?

Highly doubtful, corruption only occurs under a set of very specific circumstances:

1.) Data (Such as DLC) is removed, and not replaced. Game will constantly crash because it has items in there that it cant support without the removed media. Simply reinstalling the media should fix the file, though in few cases the files are still rendered unplayable.
2.) Game quitting/System Shutdown during saving. Biggest cause of file corruption, cannot be repaired.
3.) Bugs that mess with saving functions, delete content, or otherwise alter the game can corrupt the game. Only source of saving is a patch/fix, and even there there's a minimal chance the file can be saved.
4.) Modifications, being it done by any one persons, or a bug, can corrupt the game. Don't think this one can be repaired as the mods will still exist.

This bug only really falls under point #3, but the vast majoirty of complaints are coming from people that turn the game off after it freezes while loading. So unless the bug causes a crash during a save, I honostly can't see anyone's files getting corrupted.

I agree that the saves are fine, maybe not for the people playing it with the warning cause if they save again it could be an issue. If you are getting the freeze while loading, like I am, then its just reading the file, not writing it.

I was hoping the patched patch would have come out by now. I just wasted a day of playing my character for Honest Hearts.

Okay, I know I did not encounter any freezes while saving lately and the missing DLC message appeared only today after the patch was applied. I did not touch any DLCs whatsover (unless clearing cache can do that) and the patch was deleted but I still nonetheless get the same missing DLC message and load crash. So it looks like to wait is the only solution. Much thanks for the help, cheers

I agree, though I have been switching between files and they've been fine thus far, all we can really do now is wait for the fix and see what happens.

I know how ya feel, I've been working on a new Main Account for honest hearts, mainly because my previous MA's SPECIALs svcked :sadvaultboy: Was more of a, lets-play-and-try-to-make-a-badass. Now it's "Trial Over, I know what I'm doing now."

You should be fine then. I'd just say let it sit, don't remove DM unless you absolutely have to, and you should be fine. In all honesty though, everyones getting the message, from the people that picked the game up last week and havent gotten any DLC yet, to the people who have the Pre-Order DLC and Dead Money. It seems like something about the patch is making the game refuse to acknowledge the existance of the FONV DLC.

No problem, glad I could be of assistance. :)
