Unable to get to Mallius Marccius

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 11:21 am

Hi

Started Dampened Spirit quest and need to speak to this guy in Whiterun. Problem is that I also started Battle for Whiterun in parallel so get attacked every time I get near Whiterun (fighting for Stormcloaks).

Do I just have to temporarily park any side quests that involve going into Whiterun or is that it as far as going into Whiterun peacefully is concerned?

I tried deactivating the Battle for Whiterun quest but still get attacked on entering.

Thanks

It's not a good idea to use console commands on major quest lines unless absolutely necessary.- finish Battle for Whiterun then talk to him.

Ok thanks. Thought you could switch these side quests on and off, after all Battle for Whiterun is a side quest isn't it?

You can manipulate quests if you're familiar with using the console and know how to fix things if it goes wrong.

Battle for Whiterun is part of the Civil War questline - if you 'break' the quest it may have consequences in later quests.

Just get the battle over with. Any number of things could go wrong if you try and code your way past it.

Thanks again

Just to be clear though, you often bump into characters and initiate a quest then find you have multiple quests open at a time. If you didn't toggle some of these off you'd end up with so many arrows on the screen you'd become dizzy.

Toggling the quest marker doesn't deactivate the quest. You just don't see the marker for it.

Thanks.

That's all I've ever done. Where does this business about using console commands to interfere/change the sequence of quests come from then? (I.e that which is described as risky above).

As advised on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console :

If you don't know what you're doing, using console commands can cause your game to malfunction! Executing the wrong command can cause your game to stop working normally; furthermore, you may not become aware of such malfunctions right away, and you may not be able to trace their cause. They can cause problems like making quests impossible to complete, altering your game's display, all kinds of game behaviors, your ability to play your character, and your ability to play the game at all. Solutions are not always easy, and may involve losing saved games or reinstalling your game.
