Unable to Play Mods after Re-installing Oblivion

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:16 am

Hi everyone. I'm confused and would love some help. My computer crashed and I lost my Oblivion saves. I almost didn't mind because it was fun to start again as a newbie, but I've tried re-installing some mods that I used to have running, and for some reason nothing happens. For example, if I go to a house that I installed, there's nothing there---literally. I'm just wondering now if you guys have ever had this happen and what you did to fix it? I'm thinking about uninstalling and re-installing everything AGAIN, but would like to avoid it since I just did that! :)

Thanks for your help!

Couple of possible problems. If on Windows Vista or 7, best to install outside the "Program Files" folder....like in "C:/Games" instead. Just avoids a lot of unnecessary work.

Other most common issue is that if the game isn't patched to at least the 1.2 version, mods made in the 1.2 Construction Set won't load. Should be patched to 1.2.0416, and this number should be in the bottom left of the main menu.

Thanks Patriarch. You know, when I re-installed Oblivion this time, I don't think I patched it. I'll go give that a try and see what happens. :)

You may want to delete the oblivion.ini and let the game generate a new one for you.

I agree with manymoose, delete your oblivion.ini file... I have had the same issue before when I re-installed Oblivion.

Make sure you don't touch the Oblivion_default.ini in the Oblivion install folder. You're looking for the Oblivion.ini in the "My Documents/My Games/Oblivion" folder.

Thanks showler. Unfortunately I'm not sure what I did, but I wasn't able to find an ini file anywhere, and when I try to run Oblivion it won't play at all. Now I have another problem which is that the game won't allow me to uninstall it....it says it can't find the uninstall file. So.....I can't play it but I can't remove it either. Ack! :(

The only thing I can think of is that I WAS going through my meshes, textures, etc. and deleting stuff, hoping it would help run my game better, so I'm wondering if I might've uninstalled something important now. :(

Anyway, I appreciate all of your help you guys and I guess I'm going to try to keep my hands off this thing so I don't make it any worse than it is!

How are you trying to run it? You want to use the OblivionLauncher.exe file for the first launch, and you want to do that before adding any mods if possible.

Try browsing the disc and run setup.exe - that works on XP at least.

Thank you SOOO much you guys. I finally ran it from the setup.exe and now it seems fine. I also uninstalled all of my mods, then re-installed one just to see if it would work, and it did! I'm so relieved and so psyched. Thanks so much again for saving my Oblivion life. LOL
