Unable to put Hearthfire to good use.

I have owned the Legendary Edition of Skyrim for a long time. I am unable to make any use of this dlc. I've only bought the Whiterun house and always just use it. Now I will say that I have used this dlc once.

Sure it has a few good perks....like a carriage and sticking a coffin in your basemant if you're a vampire, that and a lot of space. Sure there is a trophy for it on your PSN account or X-Box live. But those are not big reasons for me to put time in to that.

So, is Hearthfire just something to throw money at when you've got nothing better to do?

It takes some of the boredom out of grinding up your Smithing. You get quite a few levels out of making all those nails, fittings, hinges, and furniture.

I find it useful to have all the crafting stations in one place, including the forge and smelter. And of course, if you're a collector, you'd have to have all the city homes, and the Hearthfires ones.

It's for people who really want to roleplay. If you just want to dike around, like I do, making a family and a house isn't really important. But if you want to make a life inside the game then a house of your own could fit into the role you want.

Trophy room to display unique items, garden/fish hatchery, adds one alchemy ingredient and a lot of food items, allows you to have a bard and steward...

Those are some of the things I like about hearthfire.

My biggest regret about Hearthfire is that we cannot build a farm; only these fancy houses full of useless things. Adopting children is good too.

For those who want to roleplay building a house and perhaps having a family, I suppose it is a good thing. My character is a wandering adventurer though and building a home is of no interest to her. So, I have the DLC because it came with the legendary version of the game, but no interest in using it. Don't get me wrong - I think it is a neat idea, just not for my (one and only) character. :icecream:

My favorite Hearthfire feature is Salmon Roe. Seriously.

Mine as well as the garden and greenhouse, they always have those. Best supply of Canis Root, Imp Stool and Mora tapinella around (those 3 together can be quite nasty  ).

Skyrim is a playground. Some kids like to build castles in the sandbox, some like to go in circles on the merry-go-round and others like to mug the rest of the kids for their lunch money.

For my part, I've never been able to do the assassin's guild, and I've only ever done the thieves guild quest line once then never joined them again with another character.

If Hearthfire ain't your thing, that's okay.

I personally love the Hearthfire houses. I sometimes build them for characters who won’t live in them just to have another place for them to visit in the game. It’s easy to stick an NPC there and ignore their steward dialog. Plus the greenhouses ease some frustration for alchemists. I completely see how it’s not for everyone, though. It’s a shame that there is/are achievement(s) associated with Hearthfire. I suppose that completing all of the content to get the badge or whatever must be boring for those who aren’t interested in what it offers in their games.

i still can't believe hearthfire wasn't just a part of the base game. this is an issue that's been brought since morrowind and they know it. (as well, why the heck aren't there cheap slum alternatives that are easily accessed and numerous?)

hearthfire is a great alternative to those who don't want to do, say, the main quest or other lengthy hold questing and actually like the roleplay abundance that the dlc adds.

not being within a city and practical advantages are nice, as well.

When I was a child I liked to build things from modelling clay or legos or tinkertoys. I like gathering raw materials to build something, then using the basic components I've made to build something more complex. For me, Hearthfire is the perfect addition to Skyrim, it isn't about a money sink at all, I enjoy the process. It isn't for everybody, but for those of us who enjoy that kind of thing it's great. If I could only have one DLC for Skyrim, Hearthfire would be it.
