unable to run wrye bash launcher

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 3:54 pm

encountering an error in not being able to run wrye bash launcher ( i double click in but it doesn't do anything), but i have confirmed that i installed all the components of wrye python 2.6.5 before i installed wryte bash 285.

getting this error when i run the bugdump:

no module named wx

according the wryebash page, this is what causes that:

? You haven't installed wxPython or you haven't installed it in the right place.

? Be sure that you actually installed (not just downloaded) wxPython.

? If, when installing wxPython, you did not see the usual installation wizard dialog, then you almost certainly downloaded a corrupted version of wxPython. Re-download it. Make sure that the downloaded file is larger than a few kB (actually, it should be about 8 Mb)

so, i am confused b/c i know i have installed wxpython. and it looks like i have the wryebash install in the correct place- there's a Mopy folder in my Oblivion folder, and various bash folders in my Oblivion>Data folder.

i didn't see an option to run wrye bash as an administrator (like with oblivion mod manager).
might i be better off uninstalling wryebash 285 and instead installing wryebash 275, which is a self installer? if so, how do i uninstall wryebash 285, as it is mixed in with my Oblivion install folders now.

thanks.

Did you install Wrye Python or another version of Python? It's got all that Bash needs (its on TESNexus together with Bash)

Don't worry, I had the same problem.

First Install wrye python package 02, then manually install wxpython. Wrye Python pack02 does not work properly and does not install wxpython, so you have to do it on your own.
Then nstall Wrye Bash 275 with the installer and drop the folders of Wrye Bash 285 on top of it.

Doing this way worked for me.

Try and let me know ;)

What about Wrye Python 03? That worked for me.

yeah, i installed wrye python 03. b/c wrye bash launcher didn't work and indicated that wxpython wasn't located, i installed wxpython2.8-win32-ansi-2.8.10.1-py26.exe. no improvement.

b/c i have already installed wrye bash 285, would i be okay to install wrye bash 275 over that?

Uninstall cleanly, and reinstall Oblivion (and all mods and utilities for it - like Wrye Bash, for instance) somewhere outside of Program Files (or the x86 version of same).

edit: I use C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion but plenty of alternatives are also fine. The Oblivion installer gives you the option of selecting (or in this case, creating) the directory for the game.

ok, so i need to create the softworks/oblivion folders myself right and then install oblvion toi it? that would explain the difficulties i was having last time i installed oblivion outside of the program files (x86) folder. i posted about it here:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102353-is-it-correct-to-have-two-different-data-folders-in-oblivion-folder/page__p__16124388__fromsearch__1&#entry16124388

basically, the game didn't create a bethesda softworks>oblivion folder and just installed a data folder, so my install structure was C:Games/Data instead of C:Games/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data

am i correct in thinking i need to create the Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion folders myself?

Yes. Type the entire path (for example, C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - taking due note of backslashes and so on) in place of the default it gives you (I'm guessing that would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - it was for me, and I'm using the same OS as you).

But you don't need to create any folders beyond giving the installer the above info (or something very much like it) - or at least, it's very unlikely you would need to, depending on the mods you might select down the track some time.

When you change the install directory, you can change it to anything you like. Some people prefer c:\games\oblivion, other people like to keep the Bethesda Softworks directory in there so they use c:\games\bethesda softworks\oblivion. I think the reason for the difference is that some people have other Bethesda games and want to group them all together. You don't have to create any directories - Oblvion will do that when you install it.

When you install Wrye Bash, you just have to make sure you select the Oblvion directory you wound up using. You have to do that manually when you are decompressing the archive version. The installer version finds the directory for you. I would recommend the archive version because there are some fixes in there and if you use Wrye Python 03, you can use the newer version of Python (2.6.5). If you are still having trouble, post a response here and I will give you step-by-step instructions.

My opinion: Turn it off when you are making changes to your load order; otherwise, leave it on, and it will save you much time cleaning up mistakes. However, do turn on "auto-ghosting."
