Unable to start "Ghost Town Firefight" quest in Good

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 1:45 pm

Hi guys, have a bit of a problem... spoilers may follow so be warned!

For some reason the Goodsprings quest "Ghost Town Firefight" isn't starting. I've seen the encounter between Trudy and Cobb at the bar, been to see Mitchell, whatshisname shacked up at the gas station, spoken to Trudy and Cobb, but for some reason the quest isn't starting or I'm not getting the option to start the quest. My only option is to help Cobb destroy/take over Goodsprings. For some reason Cobb and Sunny Smiles have also turned up dead randomly with no obvious cause. I've since used the console to resurrect them.

The quest isn't even being displayed in my PipBoy. Is there a console command I can use to set it back to its initial state or something? I've tried startquest and stopquest and startquest again with quest's FormID (000104EAE) but no dice.

Whoa, dude. your messing with my drunken head.

I'm crosseyed already and this post is just making me dizzy.

From what your describing I'd say you got a seriously hosed up save game issue that was corrupted by something and it is just getting worse.

I recall from F3 days a issue with disappearing NPCS that was fixed by some esoteric recall method using the console.

I do know one can hose quests by using resurrect improperly ... sometimes you can create multiple instances of the same npc and that becomes
a real sticky mess.

My suggestion, given your description and the mess it has become... is to fall back to a much earlier save file and redo things.

By chance are you using any mods? If so which? Could be a mod that corrupted something. If you are using mods removing them can cause problems with later saves.
Sort of a cascade of errors that build up as time goes on.

I ruined many char series in F3 by fooling with one too many mods. LOL.

ANyway, post the mods your using maybe a answer can be found there.

P.S. Post your system specs .

No mods, but I fixed it myself. The following command did it:

setstage 00104EAE 5

You might have accidentally picked the option to the likes of "What if I help you take over the town?" when speaking to Cobb, so it thought you were gonna take over the town and Cobb was killing random people.
