1. Guns always have more emphasis, even back in 1 & 2. Why? because they are the conventional arm of 21st to early 22nd century. Count the number of Small Gun weapon in 1&2, they are the most numerous.

2. Since you have brought up Unarmed is overpowered, of course we have to discuss other weapon type and see if they are indeed worst than Unarmed or not. Since you didn't have enough experience with all of them, you are simply not the best of judge.

3. As for the "underpowered" explosive, it can still do comparable damage to the best Unarmed weapon; Unarmed overpowered?

4. I was in EW discussion. The conclusion? you are blind to see how 1.03 patch brought EW fairly high up.Laser Rifle got twice the damage from patch, Plasma Rifle get 50% more damage, Multiplas use half the ammo etc.

5. As for your example......clearly you have the wrong idea how tough canines are and how powerful laser is. While I think Laser Pistol should line up against .357 instead of 9mm and do more damage instead of firing quicker, it is still balance under the current scheme as you can load up OC or MC to improve weapon performance.

6. And yeah, complaining about too many ammo and to expensive to make OC/MC at the same time? you make a whole lot of sense.

1. But the other weapon classes were balanced in their own way around Small Guns, SG were the balanced starting skill, a skill to allow you to learn the game before trying out one of the harder combat skills, in NV they on the other hand tried to make everything equal.

2. Hm, kay.

3. Explosives is under powered like crazy.

4. It's still not the Energy Weapon skill that I fell in love with in FO1/2/T.

5. So a canine could survive IRL three dynamite sticks as well then? Still call bullcrap, Laser Pistol should not be that weak.

6. You clearly misunderstood this part, read it again.

1. Swayer believe all combat skill should be free to pickup form start (which I am a fan of), thus everything seems to be more or less equal; however, each combat skill have their own advantage over others.

2. Good that you understand.

3. Sure it is underpowered overall. but it can still dealt comparable damage to your so call overpowered Unarmed.

4. I don't know, since I don't felt EW are THAT powerful in 1&2 ; maybe because I did thorough study?

5. You were talking about Laser VS canine, not dynamite. Explosive being underpower is not directly related to Unarmed. As for Laser, while its weak, it can fire 4 shots almost within a second to make up for it. Again, while I feel it should be other way round, it is still balanced.

6. No I don't. You rent about how EW is rare enough because there is too many ammo spread across Mojave, yet you complain about using multi-charge weapon or OC/MC is waste of ammo.

1. And I disagree with Sawyers idea behind it.

3. I'd consider Unarmed far safer though.

5. I was talking about a canine overall, and I again disagree with Sawyers idea behind EW that Plasma are powerful but slow and Laser is fast but low damage.

6. I don't think that EW should need conversion tables or charged cells and due to the easy access of them in the game I think that it's ammo is too accessible and too cheap.
But in order to fix this the entire EW category would have to be redesigned so I know it won't happen, just saying I dislike EW's nerf in power and it's increase in availability.

Anyway, EW at end-game is comparable to Unarmed in it's strength, hell, with RCW+, Gauss or Holorifle Unarmed is no match to EW's power.
But until you get those things Unarmed is on top over EW IMO.
Like, from Goodsprings to Nipton you get like plasma pistol, laser pistol and recharger rifle while as Unarmed you can get Bladed Gauntlet from Chet at the get-go.
Bladed Gauntlet is by far better than any of the EW from Goodsprings to Nipton IMO.
After that you can easily get the Power Fist IIRC and Unarmed is again on top of EW until EW characters reach Van Graffs.
I think that Unarmed is far more powerful during the start and middle of the game over EW while at end-game being the same or a little below EW.
I looked up some of the changes in the patch and I gotta say that EW got themselves quite the upgrade, but I still disapprove of their design in the game.

Point is: EW at end game is as powerful or more powerful than Unarmed, but until that point Unarmed treats EW like it's little [censored]. (IMO of course.)
They did get quite the upgrade which for the New Vegas design is a nice balance but I don't like New Vegas' design for EW.

You can get your hands on Laser RCW fairly early, admittedly by chance by so as Chet selling Bladed Gauntlet. Add Laser Pistol is only worst than Bladed Gauntlet against Gaint Radscorpion due to DT bypass, yet engage one at range is far safer than close up.

Incinerator is by far the best early game weapon, which can be obtain easily in Bison Steve. So no, EW is not bad in early game.

Seriously, the only "disadvantage" combat skill is explosive, which I blame the rather long fuse of dynamite; the damage wouldn't be so horrible if it can explode at the right place.

And just because you don't like the design for EW doesn't mean they are bad.

1. Ah yeah, forgot about the Incinerator, I admit that that weapon is a beast, I stand corrected.
But that makes me wonder, where the hell did a convict get a weapon that was created by the Enclave on the east coast?

2. Would be nice to be able to attach a device to dynamite by combining scrap electronics with dynamite so that it hits directly on impact.

3. With the few exceptions I don't really consider EW to be great either with NV's design.
They're okay, until Van Graffs + money when they become great.

Oh I love it too, I love that they put some more focus on it and gave it special moves in and outside of VATS.
Only problem I have with it is the difficulty modes. (If VH really was VH then I wouldn't mind Unarmed being so OP cause then I could just raise the difficulty to balance it out.)
