Unarmed>everything

This just happened to me, and I felt like sharing it. I had just left Nipton after killing everyone and everything there, and found myself very low on bullets. Being a survivalist, I don't like using Fast travel unless I absolutely need to Get out of dodge, and decided to walk along the road to primm. I came upon the wierdest fight at the rest stop, mostly confusing me because I had already killed all the guys there. Somehow, the raiders had pulled every ant, Radscrop and Nightstalker in the Ivanpah, and a few golden geckos. Having only a handful of bullets left, I decided to run away. That didn't work, because 2 legion assassins jumped me there on the spot. I hit my pip-boy button, digging through my inventory for a gun to use when I see I have Spiked knuckles. I sigh and Equip them, cracking my knuckles IRL, hitting every chem I had on me. I left my inventory, spamming the attack button so hard i'm amazed my controller is still intact, punches flying out at everything as I back-petalled, somehow everything calling a truce and chasing me.
The fight lasted 15 minutes.
I have 15 unarmed skill
I somehow killed everything.

Dead:
7 Jackals, 2 assassins, 6 Worker Ants, 5 soldier ants, 5 nightstalkers, 4 giant radscorps, 7 normal scrops, 1 tomas (He ran up to me in my blind furry, getting a fist to the jaw >.>) and 12 small radscorps.


TL;DR: Unarmed is so OP you could probably punch a nuke from the mojave all the way to China.

I dont know if its overpowered, but i did find it to be the most effective weapon skill on very hard difficulty and hardcoe mode with the right perks. Purifier enables you to take on Deathclaws, piercing strike makes all your punches armor-piercing, heavy-handed boots damage big time (ballistic fist will hit 100 dmg) and slayer increases attack speed by alot. Unarmed has alot of advantages that easily make it as effective as guns or energy weapons.

Unarmed is so fun. I had a character in Fallout 3 named Hertles Spurson (Sounded like a cowboy hercules or something) and I beat the entire game only using my fists. I'm currently replaying a cousin of his in NV named Spertles Hurtson and it's just as awesome, although with the introduction of DT I can't get by using only my raw fists anymore.

Well, you still can't kill things from 200 ft away, unless someone add kamehameha or rocket fist in Fallout......

oh, you mean turbo? Really makes leaping at Deathclaws oh so much more interesting.
And who needs to kill 1 enemy at 200 yards, when you can kill everything up close and personal? >:D

Unarmed was 60 odd % when you first start, with all specials at 5, very helpful.

Unarmed in the old games were at least feasible, punching someone in the eyes with a power fist is surely going to hurt them.
But in NV Unarmed is crazy powerful.
I require a nerf.
It's not suppose to be better than Guns, Explosives or Energy Weapons.
Even Melee is suppose to outclass it. (Damage wise, not speed or technique wise.)

The best freaking anime ever, watch the whole thing and see what I mean, it is after the nuclear apocolypse and is about a guy who kills bad guys with pokes and punches, making them explode, and doesnt afraid of anything.

It's nice that Obsidian put in special moves you could learn from people, and special moves you could perform in VATS the higher skill you got. But I'd also like if the higher you put your Unarmed skill, the more advanced things you would be able to do, both inside and outside VATS, and you should also be able to target body parts, including eyes and groin. If you'd have an Unarmed skill like like I do in real life, probably 20, then you'd throw simple punches, maybe you throw em a bit too far which is not a good thing since you loose balance and ability to defend(?), and kicks that's not really that high or accurate. If it's 80 you could probably do a Taekwondo kick like http://levantaekwondo.com/images/levan3_new.jpg, and a lot of other cool and effective techniques. Beth or Obsidian (whoever develops Fallout 4) should integrate a lot of different kinds of martial arts, like boxing, street fighting, Takewondo etc., into the one fighting technique your character with a 100 Unarmed skill would have, you'd see hints of many different martial arts.
In VATS, you should be able to target body parts and have different options for each for what you want to do, like if you're in Sneak mode and target the head, you can choose to break his neck. If you target his eyes, you could gouge his eyes out, render him blind. I also think that when you cripple a limb, it should actually be useless. Break someones arm, and he drops his weapon, and he should not go and pick it up again and proceede to attack you with it. The arm should hang there limbly, and he could continue to attack you but use only one arm (shooting a pistol with one hand, or trying something two-handed in one hand, or just punch you) or flee. If you cripple both legs, he should be http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Immobile. Same thing goes for you. You can still defend yourself, though, and crawl but it's no good way of traveling. Try healing one of your legs with the Doctor Medicine skill (and the help of a Doctor's Bag, but you should be able to manage without one, just not as effective)

So, in short - a much more varied combat, the higher your skill is. You should be able to target limbs, eyes and groin in VATS, and cripple should mean cripple (ouch, a crippled groin!). You should still be able to learn special moves from people though. Also, if you read enough Unarmed magazines, you'd soon would have learnt something permanent and therefore has gained a new special move.


Also, on topic: I'm trying an Unarmed character, but kinda got bored with her becasue she turned out real ugly from the face generator, and I didn't make up any interesting personality or story for her..

I like Unarmed being as strong as it is, personally; it was crap in FO3 so it's good to see it actually be a threat.

Realistically, it should be the weapon type with the highest damage potential because it has the shortest effective range of any weapon type, even shorter than Melee Weapons. If Guns could do as much damage consistently as Unarmed, Unarmed wouldn't be strong enough. Unarmed has to hit harder to compensate for the risk the player takes in charging head-on at enemies.

It's just that the AI isn't too smart and doesn't employ tactics effective against Unarmed combat, so it's easy to rip apart enemies.

@Gabriel77-Personally, I'd prefer for all weapon proficiencies to be equally viable; why deliberately make Unarmed worse than any other skillset?

Because it's unarmed...
Exactly the reason why I hate the way EW is in FO3 and FNV, nerfed like crazy.
They're not suppose to be "equal".

I liked how it was handled in the originals my self.

While you didn't do lots of damage with your fists to armored enemies you got lots of knockdowns and criticals. Special moves got amazing bonus damage and bonus criticals. Plus piercing strikes did AP bonus.

Love unarmed, the equalising factor is in that you get shot on the way in.
However since Obsidian listened to the fans opinions a fair bit, leveling was scrapped and that made ranged fighters with decent weapons rarer.

You don't break the arm, but you hit it so you paralyze it or something, and render it useless for 5-10 seconds maybe. During this time, the guy still can't use a weapon with this arm, it will hang limply like the Charger's left arm in L4D2.

My newest character - T-51b power armor, Ballistic fist, mercy. 100 unarmed, 100 explosives, 9 strength, 10 endurance. Very Hard difficulty.

Basically I F#CK SH%T UP.

You do have to remember higher tier unarmed weapons are not your common knuckles.

And you would need quite a bit of perk investment to out damage other weapon type.

No need to nerf unarmed, the challenge is closing in on your target, and f#%king cazadores.

Cazador, one hit insta kill for me IIRC.

Unarmed doesn't have to be useless but the fact that an unarmed build with Pushy outclasses everything else is ridiculous.
