unbindable keypad = unplayable game for a leftie

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 7:09 pm

Another pre-order i bitterly regret when i find the games controls un-remappable.

I need a fix, or a refund, basically - unless you have a magic wand to make me right handed.

I miss the 90s, when all games were keypad only, the righties were stuck using my keys.

Yes...

Seriously Bethesda, this needs to be addressed.

You can use a third-party program like Auto Hotkey to ~trick~ the game ---- I had to use this in Skyrim, I think. Kind of a cludge to get it to work, and VERY annoying that it's necessary (if it is ---- no copy myself, yet).

One more vote for this. They patched Skyrim to allow numberpad binding eventually, so why do they repeat the problem on the next game!?

I'm looking at a program called G-Hotkey, seems a little easier to set up than Auto Hotkey, and is made specifically for gaming. Also keeping an eye on Fallout 4 Nexus in case someone brings out a quick fix.

Edit: Forget G-Hotkey, it doesn't work well. AHK is the better choice.

You'd think being able to bind keys would be a given on PC games. I play with a contoller so it doesn't bother me...plus I'm not a lefty. But I'd end up rebinding the keyboard to my liking if I did play with mouse and keyboard.

we should NEVER have to use a third party program just to change controls and auto hotkey is NOT a user friendly thing.

It's going to be a much bigger issue than just the mutant 'lefties', in this day and age most people who play FPS type games on PC remap their controls so they are all the same across all their games, it's a muscle memory thing - this has made the game virtually unplayable for me as bethesda have reserved the key I usually use to reload, now I'm firing stims into my character almost constantly because of it.

Was this stuff not beta tested?

This is really starting to piss me off. The last 4 games I've bought all had the same problem : unusable keypad.

Is it some kind of trend ? A conspiration ?

Whatever, if as a PC user I am considered a sub-class player not even worth a decent keyboard support, then this sub-class player will keep his money.

This is actually the only game I can remember in the last ten years, that I've had this issue with. Then again, I don't usually pre-order and download the minute a game is out. I guess I know not to pay top dollar and beta-test ever again!

At this point it just feels like pure laziness on their part.

i'm not a lefty and i don't use WASD, i use the arrow keys for movement and numpad 0 for jump in my games always have, and like a poster above keep wasting stimpacks due to habit of pressing that key, hopefully some sort of fix will be soon so we can have choice!, which is what PC gaming is all about.

i remember Scarface was like this and the devs would not change it.

Do you mouse with your left? If so, WASD is pretty awkward with your right, particularly in terms of reaching all the other surrounding keys. I wouldn't be able to comfortably hit the Space bar with my pinky, or the Shift key with my thumb while keeping my fingers on the movement keys.

If you're using your right hand on the keyboard, it's much more comfortable to set up a layout that somewhat mirrors the default keybinding. It doesn't have to be the numberpad, but I find it gives me the best layout of peripheral keys for all the typical functions found in a FPS-type game. I have a set-up that I like and I'm used to. There's no good reason that the numberpad keys have to be locked out to match the number hotkeys, and there's no reason for functions to be hardcoded to use E instead of remapping to whatever you set as the Activate key. It's poor and sloppy coding, and it's fairly trivial to change if you have access to the relevant file.

This problem is driving me crazy. I suggest you all fill out a feedback form ASAP so we can get some coverage on this.
