Under Water Vision?

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:56 am

One thing I hated about oblivion, was that underwater, there was not way to change so it looked normal. This svcked for me because my vision's bad, and everything was a blue blur (I couldn't tell where enemies where), and would have loved a spell or enchant that would let me get rid of that monotone color scheme.

What do you think?

I think this time around they are going to fix that, instead of making a spell effect for it. LOL, that would be ridiculous, fixing something in the form of a spell instead of actually fixing it. So I wouldn't worry about it. :)

I don't have vision problems but it was still hard to see. I think this time around the water will just be clearer, instead of a spell affect.

Why not include the obvious poll choice: just have everyone able to see under water without a spell or anything fancy?

There really isn't anything to "fix". They are trying to simulate the water effect, which they did pretty well. Your not really meant to see that far underwater. There is always a chance that a spell let's you see far underwater and there is always mods.

I think the underwater vision was OK. But it could have been a lot better than just this wall of "fog". Could have been caustics and better lighting in general under water, and a smoother and longer transition for the "fog".

Underwaters can be done a thousand times better today, and I'm sure they will be improved a lot in Skyrim.

OT: Doesn't nighteye spell kind of solve this, or the light spell?

I voted to have both a spell and an Item that did this but I also think that any race that has Waterbreathing as a race Perk like Argonians do should have this kind of underwater sight as a racial Perk from the beginning. In nature any creature that can breath under water can aslo see underwater

People tell me it's possible to see under water but when I try all I get is an extremely uncomfortable sensation on my eyes and vague blobs. I can't really see underwater at all.

That said, I'll take function over realism. Just let us see underwater without any spell. I voted no for that reason.

You mean like swimming to the top, and free caming at the water edge in order to see just as well underwater as you can on land? ;)

I too am frustrated with the way underwater vision is handled. But I always turned to Detect Life for help finding baddies and such. It doesn't help when you are looking for inanimate objects or doors though. So yeah, please fix! :)

This is what I do, it really does make a huge difference.

Erm, they can sense underwater. Sight isn't always an option in very turbid or dark waters.

Well, what you experience while looking underwater is what I get as well. I can spot a fish from above, but when I'm underwater, it will be a blurry object.

I used Night Eye
Eh, our eyes and brains are made to see in air. I thought the water vision stuff they did was right on  The only thing I'd add is a special kind of "helm" like a diving mask.

OP should've played on 3rd person. If you angled the camera just right, underwater looked like no water.

There wasn't anything to see underwater, just rocks and some grass, and only one enemy, slaughterfish, so unless skyrim has some coral reefs, or does something cool with underwater environments in general then whats the point

I wouldn't mind it at all. I don't think they need to fix anything since in real life when udnerwater everything is quite blurry unless you have goggles :P which is why I think a spell wouldn't be too strange

Some reptiles like alligators and crocs have second eyelids that allow them to see underwater. It would be cool and make sense if argonians had this as an ability, then there could be a spell to replicate it for the other races.

Indeed. I'd want to see crystal clearly in crystal clear water, ESPECIALLY if I'm an Argonian dammit.
