Underdog Mods [thread 2]

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2011 4:24 am

How about a rule that you're only allowed to recommend your own mod if you think it deserves it from a mod user's point of view?
[snip]

The problem with this idea is, and that's what pretty much killed the first try at an Underdog mod list thread, in that it lead to a "do not use list". Really. In part #1 some people advertised their own mods, which did nothing else than screw up the game, because they were coded horribly and not tested in game. There were mods making massive use of placeatme (every frame!). There were mods using resurrect on the player. There were teleportation mods without an SI check. There were mods that had hit "recompile all scripts". And a lot of other hiccups.

For advertising your own mod, use a release thread. As a minimum of "quality assurance" people shouldn't recommend their own mods here. We've seen what was the result ;).

Well, this one certainly slipped the radar. I've prompted the author to make a relz thread here at the ESF, but here goes.

Have a look for yourselves - it is very imaginative (although I have yet to play it ingame), and the screenshots look awesome. The modder hjas used some very good resources in this mod as well.

So recently I've been finding nice loot I'd like to sell but I'm still waiting to reach the level of mercantile that I can invest in a store (I already use smarter mercantile leveling). Anyway as I understand itthe Living Economy mod makes merchant money work exactly like in MW. I was wondering though if there are any mods out there that allow merchant money to be boosted by buying stuff from them without also having their money drop below the set level in Vanilla when you sell expensive stuff to them. Maybe this is an odd thing to want but I just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of such a mod.

I haven't been able to find any mod at all that changes the barter gold based on buying/selling items except for LE. :(
This is just from simple searching at TES Nexus though...

I love the Mimics mod :D Also lost many a gold coin at Fuse's Snail Racing, lol. Another good one is 'The Lost Province Of Zedar'. Easily one of my favorite world-spaces. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17018 Makes for some great back round scenery when taking character screens. For all you would-be evil characters, two must-have mods; Necromancy Unleashed http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4198 Provides a simple and clean interface for creating and commanding various undeads. The Dark Arts http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13927 Has some of the finest quest writing I've ever seen, and spells that are genuinely useful w/out being overpowered. Course if you're not evil (read: wimps) you can become a full-fledged druid; http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20372 Finally a nice replacement for magic scrolls; http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=927216 Moar I say! :P Great thread btw.

Gah.. sorry. Hadn't read the post about not plugging your own mod. Totally understand the justification, there. I do have to say that the only reason I made the mod was because I wanted it's functionality in my game as a player (ala the example given in a later post), but I'm not one to stir up the waters. Great stuff here, and I'd like to add one that isn't mine:

And with only 314 downloads, Qarls Texture Pack 3 Optimised (works with redimised and reduced as well) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23178

...
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13060 Adds eat/drink/sleep to Oblivion. A little finicky sometimes, but I love the natural 'cycle' you get into with it.
...

I hope my next update will fix a lot of the finickiness (is that a word?) of V&VA.

One thing I have fixed is, I've removed the changes to some of the GMSTs (game settings)... particularly the Fatigue Regeneration settings. Previous versions of Vim & Vigor nuked the fatigue regen for everyone (fFatigueReturnBase). This value determined the base fatigue regen for every NPC and creature in the game. The default value is 10, V&V set it to 0... I've rewritten the scripts so that I'm able to set it back to 10. No longer will knocked out Essential NPCs stay knocked out.

Anywho, just getting the word out that if all goes well with the playtesting, I'll be releasing the update in the next 7 to 10 days. That's my self imposed deadline anyway. Wish me luck.

Spell Deflection!
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11477

Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGV57Q8GOqM

This mod is incredible. If you ever loved the Mirror Shield in Ocarina of Time (or whatever Zelda game it was in) you will LOVE this mod. Hell I can't imagine how you couldn't love it -- your shield can deflect spells!

It may sound unbalancing, but with a low block skill the spells will end up flying off in every odd direction, or wont deflect at all most of the time. It isn't until you're highly skilled in block until you'll be able to accurately guide the spells. Wherever your crosshair is pointed is where the spells will attempt to go, so you can be attacked by one NPC, and then guide the spell towards an entirely different NPC. It even integrates with Deadly Reflex with Timed Block which makes it very balanced with the rest of the game.

Create lockpicks from metallic in-game objects. Random clutter now actually serves a purpose.

This has quite a few downloads, so I'm not sure whether it counts, but I have not seen many people talk about this mod and in my opinion it is essential.
