I understand some of you are upset but....

...ask yourself, how is this situation with new features and change any different from every other title gamesas has released? There was more than a fair amount of stink raised about every single game from Oblivion to Fallout 3. I remember each one had a lot of people complaining about various 'new' things in each title and yet after the release I noticed a decline in complaints. In fact, this isn't even a Bethesda game only thing, literally every AAA title has loads of complaints that seem to fade away after the complainers actually play the game. So please answer: How is this in any way different from the last time?

This is not flamebait, it is just me posing a question to you all. I'm not saying to not have an opinion and I'm not completely FOR or AGAINST FO4 but I am going to ask you to take a breather, calm down, and not emotionally react to every single change. Please discuss calmly.

I'm sure it'll mostly relax once the game comes out. Right now the only thing people can do is either praise or complain. it makes it even worse when we are left with a ton of questions. Once we know more/actually play the game I'm sure people will stop being idiots

I'm not sure it is different. But when people have become fans of a game, any changes in a sequel may be changes for the worse, and that naturally upsets them. Sequels in other media certainly have a habit of going downhill as invention fails and brilliant ideas start to be replaced by mediocre ones.

And with so little actual information, there's no real way to tell whether this game will have what people loved about the last one, or if it will be so different that fans of the last game will hate it. So with no hard information, people who are nervous and fearing the worst naturally tend to put the worst interpretation on the little they know.

And, of course, there will be a certain decline in complaints after a game launches because people who really don't like the changes are likely to stop being involved in the series or voicing their opinions - because voicing their opinions didn't avoid the changes they hate. Reduction in complaints doesn't necessarily mean acceptance, but can just mean resignation.

Me, I think FO4 will be a great game - but I suspect it might not be the sort of great game that fans of FO3 (and earlier Fallouts) wanted.

I think it's normal for people to be anxious about changes. I am no exception, either. Sure we complain because it gives us something to do until the game comes out.

I actually really like these responses. I have to agree with this one the most, change is always scary but I always try to stifle my knee-jerk reactions by thinking the thing through and remaining in a neutral state of mind. I guess the old argument my parents used to give me "You can't dislike it if you never tried it" stuck. However resignation is an unavoidable circumsance with everything, it's not exactly an indicator of a bad choice in development, at least in my opinion.

One of the few life-skills that needs improving is the ability to look at things positively, it makes the whole thing much easier. I'm not a fan of change, but embrace it, try and find the cool things about the mechanics and you'll more likely enjoy the experience. Unless you're an over-thinker, in which case, just pray to the Gaming Gods, or try to get those constructive criticisms to Bethesda's ears, or wait patiently and mod on release.

I think the problem stems from lots of comparisons of Fallout 4 to the older titles (pre-Fo3). It's a trend I suspect we'll be seeing for years to come, and with each iteration of Fallout (5, 6, etc), there's going to be a constant comparison to the 1/2/T.

In every society there's a particular sort that will find complaint, or have issue with something, and even seek out something to have complaint about.

This typically occurs with the sorts that have an entitlement complex.

As it applies to Fallout 4, what's really amusing, the majority of "issues" the complainer demographic has are easily resolved with mods, and were easily resolved with mods in previous titles. It's like some of these folks don't know what mods are, or that there's a well established modding community on Nexus.

I've actually seen that gripe the most. Lots of people saying "FO4 isn't an RPG because FO1-2 is blah blah" and other such nonsense. When a game is passed onto a new company it needs to be treated as a new IP or at least taken with a grain of salt. It's not fair to Bethesda to expect them to not make their own interpretation of Fallout and make the same exact game as Black Isle did. Plus how miserable and stupid would Fallout be if gamesas didn't try to keep it fresh with new features and such? It would be just another rinse and repeat game like Madden or NBA. Blegh. no thanks.

This has been a thing since F03 was in the works. There's just a certain breed of Fallout fan that crawls out of the works and declares that the series is ruined forever.

I try to look at each new game as its own thing. Sure Skyrim and Oblivion are games in a series but I expected them to be different from, say, Morrowind, and each other. That said, I do recognize and criticize a games flaws, and hope they address them before the next big release. In the mean time, I just enjoy exploring the vast new world that they've built for us!

I've played 1/2/T, all of them I had too get fan made patches too play the game... I always find it amusing how people complained about the bugs for FO3 on day 1 and than push this idea that this wasn't so in 1/2/T when they came out. I expect we'll see some people doing the same when the game comes out in November.

That's actually what a lot of gamers like sadly... they just want exactly what they played in the previous game, but with newer graphics and features. Hence why games like Madden, NBA, Call of Duty, are so popular... humans don't really like change all that much.

Bethesda games tend to follow a trend and a set of phases.

1. Announcement: "THIS IS AWESOME I AM HYPE!"

2. The Wait: "Hnnnngh THIS IS GONNA svck THE SERIES IS RUINED I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

3. Actually playing the [censored]ing game: "I am actually enjoying myself."

4. The Aftermath: "This game svcks now, gimme moar!"

But in all seriousness, I'm excited for this game in general.

That's with pretty much any and everything nowadays. People bore way too easily and are ready to move on to the next thing within a week.

Remember how the majority of gamers despised early DLC announcements and season passes? Now we make threads about what DLC we would like to see before the game is even released. Edward Bernays was a genius.

There is nothing wrong with being upset about change. Naturally, were allngonna buy and like Fallout 4. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here talking about it.

But I've always supported discussion of complaints and criticims. It makes the forums an invaluable tool for logical thinking.

Just posting daily threads about our hype levels wouldn't accomplish anything or encourage critical thinking.

There is also the dreaded 5th phase: "*snobby voice* Mods were what saved this game from being a complete disaster, the developers just simply do not know what they are doing anymore...They should just have modders make the game for them from the beginning, it's like they aren't even trying anymore, hur hurr..."

Lol, the Doom forum looks like the Mojave Wasteland compared to the Fallout forums.

I don't mind changes except VA protagnist/pc. All rpg that has gone this way (that wasn't previously) that I have experienced so far have been dismal failures imo. Why fix something that was never broken.

People don't always like changes, or at least the ways that changes are revealed. I think gutting perks and shoving them into perks that are only tied to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is a dumb move that really undercuts one of the ways I had fun with character creation: Building characters that aren't necessarily "built" physically for the path they're on, but make up for it by being skilled in the field itself (e.g.: Physically weak but skilled enough in Unarmed to make it viable anyway).

How's that different than changes made in the last game? Depending on what the change was, I didn't mind it, so I didn't complain. I complain about the changes. This time, I am bothered. So I do voice my concerns. How is this a difficult concept to understand?

Yes. Echo chambers of "I'm so pumped!" are useless. I think it's sad that some people react with such vitriol to those who voice concerns about the games. Criticizing an element of a game doesn't mean that you think the entire game is garbage, nor does it mean that the people who like the game, or even that element in particular, are bad or stupid or anything else. But some people act like they're babies are being attacked when someone has something (not even necessarily) negative to say about a game they like.

You should have been here in 2002. The hate directed at Morrowind when I first got here made me leave the forums for a few months.

The only main difference for me is the new conversation wheel and voiced protagonist, the rest i sort of expected was coming this time around.

But i do not know if that is a good or bad thing yet, will hold my judgement until release if i think it is horrible or good, at this moment i am just aware of those changes that surprised me.

Funny how now that game is lauded as the crown jewel, second only to Daggerfall.

Which proves my point that everyone hates everything, until it becomes Nostalgic.
