Understanding Blender

Hey,

I am trying to do something that I thought would be very simple in Blender. Maybe it is. I'm trying to take a wheel from the "guar cart" model, and make it into a separate model file. I've just about got it sorted, but I've got some strange node (or at least, I've heard them called nodes) off to one side, like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/dragon_trident/Morrowind/Blender.png.

The original model consisted of 2 parts; the actual model as we all know it, and some transparent box which I presume to be some kind of collision box. This stray node is part of this "collision" object, the wheel of which I kept.

Basically, I wondered if someone could explain to me all these things that I clearly don't understand, like what are these nodes, and was that box indeed there for collision purposes? In which case, should I keep a collision "cylinder" around the wheel, or just get rid of it? What can I do about this node?

EDIT: It still has a http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/dragon_trident/Morrowind/Blender2.png in the CS, like the cart did; how can I make that box so that it fits the wheel?

Thanks,

- Danjb

It appears that you haven't deleted the original collision box. In object mode, do you still see black lines in the shape of the cart? If so, delete that. Nodes are like parts of the .nif file that hold specific information. What you see there isn't a node, its the center of the object, which is why the wheel is not in the center. The center is part of everything you make in Blender and has nothing to do with .nifs. You need to update the center. Select Menu ( Space, in any mode ) > Transform > ObData to Center, then export. As far as I know, the game will draw collision itself, but to add it yourself, use this guide:

http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/Blender/Collision

Edit: You probably won't need to with the wheel, but if you need to change the location of the center, select something (vertice, edge, face) in edit mode > Snap ( Shift + S ) > Cursor -> Selection. Then, in object mode, Menu > Transform > Object Cursor. To put the center in the center, do the same, but select everything ( A ) in edit mode first.

Thank you so much for the advice!

I had deleted the black collision box for the guar cart, but centering the object fixed my "giant box" problem.

The only thing I'm not sure about now, is whether to keep this "black box" around the wheel itself, or whether to delete it and let Morrowind generate the collision for itself, as you say.

No problem.

Oh, I see. I didn't even notice that you kept only part of the original collision mesh. Well, keeping the original collision of the wheel should be just fine. Test it anyway, but there probably won't be any problems.
