Understanding "Min Spread" versus "Spread"

Heya

I've always understood Min Spread and Spread, to respresent a range of inaccuracy, applied to each shot. At least, that's the way it seemed to work with Fallout 3. However, I'm confused by what I'm seeing while editing weapons in Fallout NV.

Oftentimes, the Min Spread exceeds the Spread, which suggests that these number don't represent a range of possible results at all.

For example, on one weapon, I saw a minimum spread of 0.50, and a spread of 0.0. Unless this is an error, it doesn't make any sense.

I thought that if a min spread is 0.0, and the spread is 1.0, then an RNG will generate a result of between 0.0 and 1.0. That will determine where the shot lands (assuming weapon skill of 100, for the sake of simplicity).

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for your input.

It might have something to do with what happens to the weapon as it decays. Perhaps the Min spread is for a fully repaired item, then the other value is the factor that is applied when the weapon is degraded. Some weapons may not have any spread when decayed, just reduced damage.

You can test this quickly by modding up the weapon and then consoling it into the game to see. You can console in a weapon at any level of degradation, but I forget the exact syntax for that, but the Fallout Vault should have that in the list of console commands

I'm guessing that's an error, AFAIK it's simply not possible to have a spread value lower than 0. As I see it, Minimum Spread represents the very lowest a weapon can go, and Spread being the starting default, not including things like skill level and chems.
