Underwater Bestiary In Skyrim

Post » Sat Sep 17, 2011 7:36 am

In Oblvion there weren't that much types of different fish in the sea/lakes and even less bestiary (I can only remember the Slaughterfish). Now underwater/the sea can be considered to look like another world, only more dangerous and more undiscovered than land. It has been already confirmed that there are lots of types of fish in the sea, you can grab fish with your hands, it's been confirmed are also giant mudcrabs ( ) etc etc.. but has bestiary (potential undersea predators/enemies) been confirmed? If not, what do you think? Is there a chance we'll see more slaughterfish variants or giant underwater beasts?

Confirmed So Far :

1. Lots of different types of non-hostile for-food-purpose fish.
2. Giant Mudcrabs
3. Horkers (Their Concept Art in Bethesda's Studio http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110702234120/elderscrolls/images/c/cc/Artofskyrim_003_orc.jpg (bottom of the page pic).)

I would like a much more flushed out underwater experience than we have seen
in previous installments of the series. Do i think we will? No, and I'm not holding
my breath (bad pun, but intended) waiting for it to happen. I think underwater is
an area with a huge potential though. Maybe someone will mod it. We'll see...

I liked someone else's idea of cold damage in the icy waters of the North.

Really do we have any info on underwater other than there's a lot more variety of fish in the streams?

I'm sure I saw an interview in which some guy was excited about all sorts of fish he found in the game.

We know Horkers are back, because we've seen their meat in Dovahkiin's pocket -- covered in lint by the looks of it. Unless, of course, they've imported it from Solstheim.

Oblivions underwater was terrible. I liked in Morrowind how there were underwater arches and stuff, but getting swarmed by 30 Dreughs and slaughter fish was annoying.

Yes Horkers seem to be in Skyrim, though they're not really underwater beasts :/ They like to stay in shallow water or near water, just like the majority of mudcrabs.

I'm hoping for some giant beasts in skyrim, like squids. Yeah, that would be awesome

I second this!! ^.^ I also hope they fix the clipping issue with the bottom of really deep areas (Nibean bay). Throw in some deep sea enemies like squids, and maybe a deep sea shipwreck guarded by a boss level monster, I'll be happy :3

Well the 'sea shipwreck guarded by a boss level monster' isn't something new, if I remember correctly it was in Oblivion :P

Mee too, but somehow I doubt it. A serpent maybe, but not a dragon.

I remember that guy from Destructoid mentioned that there was a plethora of fish species underwater when he dived down deep. There was also an article about an underwater city, I'll try to find it if I can, if anyone remembers the article post it here!

Wrong end of the continent sadly :(

Hopefully there will be more than slaughterfish in the water. As Skyrim is somewhat colder than Cyrodiil I have my doubts about seeing tropical fish and dolphins, but it'd be nice to see some delicious plump Horkers flopping about.

Okay, yes yes, the Giant Slaughterfish :P

And now that I think about it, instead of squids, like what another person mentioned earlier, they should just bring back the Sea Dreughs from Morrowind. Close enough (insert meme picture here)

I hope they add a lot more detail underwater the aquatic environment of Oblivion was pathetic really.

I am pretty sure I read in an interview that they are trying to make the under water environments more detailed with plant life and a lot of fish species to harvest and use for alchemy.

I would also like a huge water creature like a squid and a sea serpent mentioned above. A kraken would be great too.

I'd imagine water dragons to be a bit too difficult to implement in the game. Also they would be a bit too different from land dragons :

1. An underwater dragon wouldn't need wings right?.. So no wings
2. Gills for underwater breathing.
3. Fins on the tail for fast movement.
4. What would he breath? bubbles? :P

In other words, you can call 'an underwater dragon' Serpent.

EDIT :

Also how would the Dragonborn AND the dragon do dragon shouts underwater? I'd imagine it would be difficult for the dragonborn to shout underwater :P

Hmm.. makes sense BUT I'm expecting to see at least a giant serpent of some sorts in the game, dragons highly unlikely, after reading your post.
