Underwater combat?

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:39 am

Hi,
Does anyone know if underwater combat (using a sword, and spells) is confirmed? In Oblivion I remember you could not use spells but a sword.

Go outside, go to your nearest swimming pool, and try to fire a bow under water. Go ahead. See how that works out for you.

I believe you couldn't use destruction spells, or harmful spells in general, underwater in Oblivion. I'm not sure about bows and arrows... but I hope that isn't in Skyrim unless you're shooting at something in the water from OUT of the water. Melee weapons should be fine.

Probably not. Despite being fantasy, it still follows the laws of physics.
You know how stupid it would be to just fire a bow perfectly underwater?
And for more than one reason.

Wasn't it just target spells? iirc you could use touch spells under water.

I hope so but please no blinking slaughter fish! I'm playing Morrowind at the moment and they're almost as annoying as cliff racers. Every time you stick your damn toe in the water they're all over you.

If there are aquatic enemies in Skyrim, and I hope there are, I hope they're fairly rare, big and very dangerous.

Also, stabbing should be the only effective melee underwater.

Yeah, touch spells worked. I used absorb health to slaughter all the slaughterfish for Al...whatshisname.

You're guess is as good as mine, probably better and more credible too. I was never a mage in Oblivion, so the only harmful spell I ever tried underwater was Flare, which didn't work. Everything else, all of my self spells, worked fine however.

Is it really that hard to use a bow and arrow in water? Surely it's easier than swinging a sword

Well, because of water friction the arrow won't go so far! As in Oblivion, the arrow distance in water was very limited. I think Bethesda should use the same concept in Skyrim.

its actually possible to shoot a bow in a swimming pool, but you need skill and a VERY Tight bow
and that arrow is only going 10 ft
