Underwater Combat.

Post » Thu Sep 30, 2010 12:18 pm

Hi i just migrated over here from the Skyrim forum
this is the game that will keep me patient until i end up immersed in my new obsession and i would like to ask a question
more than likely i wont get a solid answer but still..i ask

Will brink have underwater combat?
does smart work in water?

if not would you like to see it in the game?

i think that this would add a whole other layer of awesome to an already amazing game. and it makes sense because of the obvious aquatic environment.
what do you think?

No, there's no underwater missions nor would I like there to be any.

This, very much.

Also Underwater-Parkour would look odd.

water may appear but guns don't work underwater anyway. and underwater guns are not so useful on land, but look awesome.

essentially the barrel fills with water and the bullet has to push against that to leave the muzzle. end result is exploding barrel. very few can do it.

I think TC was talking about something more along the lines of Bioshock with sunken buildings or passageways, not actually swimming around with guns underwater. I could be wrong though lol.

Either way, no, I don't want anything underwater.

An underwater sub-level would be cool, and maybe some surface swimming in a mod, but we don't need underwater combat.

I think that could actually work.

Like there could be a flooded hallway that could be used as a shortcut to an objective. Problem is the hallway is long (or maybe it's blocked off and you have to swim through some rooms to another hallway). It's risky because if you take a wrong turn you could run out of air, plus the enemy could have a turret waiting on the other side. Like any good shortcut in the game, it might get you to where you want to go faster, but it'll be a lot more dangerous.

And you could always use your knife underwater. That or maybe have the game give you a small spear gun that you only pull out when you're completely submerged in water. It only has one shot so you'd have to make it count.

They could bring back the water pump system from W:ET. For those who don't know: You had a flooded cave, and after and engineer repaired a water pump, the cave drained.

Oasis was one of my favorite maps. They were all really well designed.

Yea,the underwater thing should be left to bioshock, just because it in a watery-ish enviroment, doesnt mean that it needs to have gameplay related or using the water, i would like to see that you can swim in water tho, like if you fall off and you can use smart to quickly get out of the water, other then that theres no use for underwater areas.

I don't think he means actually swimming under water. That aside...

A floating city like The Ark could very well have a subsurface hangar for submarines beneath the city and why not panorama windows beneath the surface that gives the sense of an aquarium, there's no end to the possibilities of map creation. Battles can take place in the machine room, or the original housing that was built for the ark...whatever gives variation.

They would most definitely have a school, church, fitness center, some type of a park (garden)...you name it. It's a society after all. They need to grow food somewhere and a place to keep their livestock perhaps...jada jada jada...list goes on.

http://www.splashdamage.com/screens_brink/028.jpg which is most likely taken on "The Aquarium".

Notice the "Pump Us...." on the wall?

That sounds good.

I had a scuba idea awhile ago. It was only meant to be used a shortcut.

I think it says PUMP 02, as in pump number 2, or where you not serious?

It can't be "US", because the "S" is facing the wrong way. You're right on that. But that still doesn't mean that it's not a repairable objective., it can be a second pump.

I wasn't sure. Possibly just PUMP 02 ...

EDIT: Seeing it says Pump 01 on the other side, I should've figured that one out. <_<

I think that "pumping" may be an ARK slang term for getting water, since the Guests are given extremely low water rations...

Ocean water causes dehydration, i imagine the pumps are for filling up the aquarium or just bilge pumps to keep The Ark afloat. They probably do desalinate ocean-water (wouldn't want to rely on rainwater), but it wouldn't be a part of the aquarium, and it would always be running, those pumps aren't in use.
