I've uninstalled this mod, but the items are still there!

Post » Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:36 am

So I recently uninstalled Tona's Compilation OMOD, but the chests are still in the Imperial city and for sale at Jensine's. So I looked through the mod's readme and followed the manual uninstall instructions too (deleting any tona texture or mesh subfolders, which there aren't any). Now I should mention the icons aren't showing in the chests or merchant inventory, but the items are there. I've rebuilt the bashed patch in Wrye and also invalidated the archive in OBMM, but the items are still there.

How's that for a pickle!

Any of you want to take a crack at this little predicament? I'd appreciate any help, I'm out of ideas. Cheers.

Sounds like the items are still in your save game. If so, you'll have to use a third-party utility to clean the references out. I've never performed this kind of surgery on my saves so someone else will have to lead your through it. Good luck.

Thanks! I've never heard of this approach. I've learned how to clean mods, but not saves. Could someone give me a run down on this?

Perhaps you can try it - Putting left-over items in any respawning containers, then leave there and wait until cells reset.

well, I've started a new game now and the items are still there. So I think that means it's not a save game issue. I'll just ignore all the items for now and see if a respawn takes care of them. I just don't understand how there can be any trace of these items when the mod was uninstalled a while ago.

Are you sure you deactivated the mod in question before uninstalling?

1 option: Stand heroically in front of the container, bravely open console, wisely click on the container, intelligently type DISABLE, press ENTER. Done :D
2 option: Put items in respawning container (already suggested I see)
3 Option: Reinstall and again uninstall
4 option: try to wear an item, if it isn't yellow square with ! mark, then you're winner and have free wardrobe! :D

There is magic in Oblivion, but not in your computer. If you started a new game and the items are still there then you didn't remove the mod that adds them. There is no other possibility.

did you use a clean save, that may help, try that.

clicking it and typing "disable" in the console is a way to do it as well...

Are you using a Wrye Bash patch, and did you update it after disabling the mod?

Ok, I reinstalled the mod, loaded my save, played, saved, exited, uninstalled it, loaded my save, and everything is still there. The disable option does work, but only on the things sitting out in the open and not in the merchants wares. I think my oblivion is possessed.

Well, do you use a Wrye Bash patch or not? The reason I mentioned it is because I had exactly the same problem once, I deleted a mod and bits from it were still around. Drove me crazy until I figured out that they must have been incorporated into the Bash Patch and when I rebuilt it without the mod they went away.

If the mod is merged into Bashed Patch, then that could explain its persistance... Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is whether or not you actually disabled or deleted the .esp that's involved, and I'd like to assume that you haven't made a mistake that simple.

Try using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21862 to see what mod these apparitions come from.

Try using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16704 to determine in-game where these artifacts are originating.

Ok, I didn't rebuild the bash patch before reloading the save. You're right. I'm assuming that loading the save after uninstalling the mod but not updating the bash patch would keep the items in the game, correct? I'll try again but this time rebuild the patch after installing/uninstalling the mod and before I load my save to check. Phew! it's enough to make you go cross eyed...

hhmmm....

ok, I did the uninstall properly this time rebuilt the bash before loading my save..........and the stuff is still there, just with no icons. I was even chanting "the power of christ compels you!" during the rebuild of the bash patch, but no dice.

SO! These other options you guys are so generously recommending, I'm gonna look into those now. Wish me luck.

I figured it out!!

Turns out that there was a folder in the texture folder that didn't get uninstalled. It's now gone, and voila!

I have exer-cised the demons...

Thanks for all the advice guys....these forums have helped soooo much over the years. Cheers to you all.
