Because...the base AMR isn't strong enough already and needs more power?

Not seeing it, and we've already got the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Pimp-Boy_3_Billion for "bling."

OK class. School circle. This period of instruction will cover the .50MG Anti-Materiel Rifle. The Anti-Materiel Rifle fires the .50MG round, a 700 grain bullet, to speeds up to 3000 feet per second. This cartridge generates up to 54,800 pounds per square inch of pressure in the chamber.....What? What's that, recruit Aidan? You've got your own AMR you'd like to fire. Well sure. Come up to the firing line. Wait a second. That thing made of gold? Suuuuuuuuuure you can fire it. Let me just back off of the firing line a little here................................................................

Not seeing the gold aspect but it could have some sweet other features that dont just increase base damage. For instance the enemy gets knocked back like in FNV.

There is a unique anti-materiel rifle, Oliver's equivalent of the Legate's bumper sword, but it was cut.

I'd prefer a unique lever action shotgun over a sissy sniper rifle.

How about an adjustable zoom on the scoped rifle scopes, though that can be accomplished though a mod.

With respect to the OP, IMO every weapon should have a unique variant, whether it is lighter, more durable, tighter spread, more damage, faster firing rate or some combination of the aforementioned features.

This multiplied by one billion.

On topic: AMR is really strong anyway, why make a stronger version? (and I'm not talking 'bout DAM)

That would be over kill, and make unique weapons what? What could you do with a Pew pew pew rifle or an even bigger stronger Tesla weapon? Anything, why would you need another weapon? Where's the fun in that?

What I don't think is realized is, The anti material rifle is the upgrade for a sniper rifle.

And the Hunting shotgun is an upgrade over a Single shotty. But I understand your point, even though I disagree with it on this principle:

The relative power of the .50MG round used in the AMR is a magantude of factors so much higher than any other round in the game that if it was modeled that way it would so completely unbalance the game it would be a laughing stock. Only a masochist would use any other weapon. I spent a great deal of effort to correctly model the realive power of each round in the game so that I could mod my own game to my liking. I didn't neccessarily change the overall range of damage that the guns in the game deal, from weakest to strongest, but just made their damage relative to each others' more in line with real performance..........wait for it.........with the exception of the .50MG. Using ballistics calculations that put all the other rounds, from the weak BB all the way up to the very powerful .45-70 government, into the established range of damage the game used, ie: from about 4 up to around 70, the .50MG round came in at a breathtaking 338. It's that much more powerful than any other round out there. So the way the game models the AMR is incredibly weak. It's almost a joke, ala the detractors of the .40S&W calling it the .40 Short and Weak, our .50MG should be termed the .50 Mighty Gimpy. So from that standpoint, I could easily accept a more powerful AMR as a unique. This thing *should* blow deathclaw body parts off like a chicken in a blender.

If they make .50BMG as rare as .45-70 before patch it wouldn't be too bad at over 300 damage...but I would say no critical damage just so that things wouldn't get out of hand.

That's actually not a bad idea. I might try that. Basically just about every time you get hit with a .50 it's gonna be a pretty critical hit. I mean losing an arm is pretty critical, right? :gun:

I wouldn't say that rare, as finding more than about 6 rounds at a vendor was a minor miracle, but after extensive testing I would say you could safely divide the current allotment by 10 and still have enough for it to actually be worth using the weapon.

I am taking into account the possibility that someone will do as I do and constantly recycle the vendors to get more, because if you do this it is rather easy to end up with thousands of .50Match after conversion at a reloading bench. In fact, dividing the current allotment by 15 might even work, however I am also assuming one has unlocked the Khans' Armorer and the Hoover Dam quartermaster; if this is not the case then it's a bit harder to get large quantities of .50s without heavily recycling the Vendortron's inventory.

My concern about making the ammo too rare is based on the current situation with the Fat Man: even with my tweaks to make explosives weapons as deadly as I feel they're supposed to be I still almost never use it, since there's only about 15 rounds in the entire game. Granted there are a lot more .50s in the game than that even without vendor recycling, but the point holds.

Definitely agreed on the no critical damage if the base is that high, since that's already enough to one-shot pretty much anything less than a Deathclaw Alpha or Mother, and if a head-shot probably even those.

Disclaimer: The first thing I did when redoing my weapons was to remove the additional sneak attack damage. Sneak attacks for me now only do regular crit damage, and I lowered all crit damage to 100% of regular damage for all weapons. Very few things one shot a Deathclaw anymore.

I knew that from following the thread about said adjustments; in this case I was referring to your version of the AMR, which does 338 DAM base while most Deathclaws don't have that much HP.

I don't disagree with that principle, I wish the game was more accurate with ballistics. I know a little about weapons. What you said about the week .40, I feel all the hand guns are a joke, Ive shot holes in an engine block at 50 ft. with a .357M..

I honestly don't remember what I put the AMR in at. I haven't used it except in the test cell since the revamp. I *think* I might have put it in at ~250ish, since, like you said, most deathchickens don't have that much HP. I just picked it up last night in the first full playthrough I've done since the mod (an asian american female OCD cleptomanic. She's compelled to steal EVERYTTHING, even things of no value). I'll look at it and take it for a spin tonight. I already did Quarry Junction, which was pretty hard with the sniper++ I had at the time, so maybe I'll head over to the Promenetory and see what shakes. If I feel it's too much overkill, taking out the extra crit damage (basically saying every shot is an automatic crit, so to say) would be a way for me to balance it a little better without compromising the basis for my weapons mod premise.

I don't disagree with that principle, I wish the game was more accurate with ballistics. I know a little about weapons. What you said about the week .40, I feel all the hand guns are a joke, Ive shot holes in an engine block at 50 ft. with a .357M..

Cast iron or aluminum is actually pretty brittle. Try shooting it at a .25" steel plate. That stops it cold every time. Some of my handguns (mostly the auto pistol rounds) benefitted from a damage upgrade, but the 9mm stayed pretty weak. Handgun rounds are what they are: big, fat, slow moving bullets that can't punch their way through any modest armor. They shred unarmored targets. God, I wish the .45 ACP was is the game.

would have been cool for the unique version to be the Bozar, in looks and be a slightly faster shooting semi-auto version of the bolt action model.

Ranger Sequoia my freind.

Also I like the AMR just the way it is. What I would like to have is a Thompson, that would fit with my M-1 Garand (This Machine) and BAR (Auto-Rfile)
