unique big town situation

maybe not so unique, as it seems townsfolk there die all the time... but in my game, i'm really trying to make an effort to prevent such events!

anyway... so i leave http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cross at big town with http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Sticky before heading to http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_87 (those kids really need all the help they can get). a couple days of game time might have passed, then joined up with http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fawkes while leaving http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Raven_Rock and headed back... i get to big town and immediately notice cross is gone, also http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Red and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Shorty are dead!!! perma-dead; something in a script has ordered them to die; cvar "resurrect" only brings them to life long enough to hear them die again... wtF is going on here?

is this a bug? has http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bittercup become self aware and escalated her dark poetry to dark scripting? are these townsfolk dying from a daydream she had? or is this a completely normal event after reaching a certain point in the games timeline?

If you don't teach them to survive then they are scripted to die after a short time.
