Unique Bow Skins?

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:20 am

Hi folks, new member here to the forums and (relatively) new member to TES. I picked up Oblivion for Xbox last year, and plan to submerge myself into Skyrim on the PC when it hits later this year.

My question is thus: in Oblivion, I played as an archer (hip-hip hooray for bows dealing a proper amount of damage in Skyrim!!), yet was underwhelmed at the graphical similarity of the different bows. I am wondering whether the community knows, as of yet, the extent to which Bethesda plans to implement unique skin designs for weapons (specifically bows, for my own personal interests).

I'd love for the game to have some very cool, sinister looking weapon models... skeletal bows, horn bows, etc. Heck, even if broadheads on arrows looked more dangerous as either their own damage and/or your skill in archery increase, that would be a very satisfying feature.

Anyway, cheers to any other archer who is as excited for the damage buff (and its associated tactical nuances) that our favorite weapon is in store for!

Personally I'd like to see customizable weaponry such as engraving stuff onto certain parts of the weapon, or coloring it and all. I hope they add that, I find it at the very least somewhat likely with what I heard.

Also, yay for archer dudes... especially since they can use a sword as great as any other guy could.

That would be cool, but if not, i can just make my own custom models for a bow.

I would like different types of bows, each with associated perks.

Like Short Bows: Fast, but weak and low range.
Long Bows: Slow, but strong and large range.
Medium bows? Power Bows? Crossbows?

After the combination of the Thieve's Guild, and the Dark Brotherhood questlines in Oblivion I've been a stealth gamer in every game I've played. Black Ops? Ghost Pro always sneaking, Reach? Active Camo at all times. I just love stealth now, and it seems that not only are bows getting a buff, but stealth is as well. Sneaking up behind someone is said to be 10x damage as of now (Not yet confirmed, but talked about by TH). Skyrim seems to be doing everthing right, and all the information I hear just sounds like better and better music. If the weapon textures are better, I won't even notice. Maybe after around 300 hours or so, I may notice my weapon's insane detail (Or lack of detail), but otherwise there is just so much else going on that I could honestly not care less about something like better weapon textures. Other than what's to be expected from a game release 5 years after oblivion.

Very true, and I am the same way, always playing an archer class (which, in most games, tends to be a rather stealthy character). I just tend to focus on the unique look of my character, and let's be honest; if we are going to become god-like powerful beings, who master our respective disciplines to defeat dragons and save the world from strife and the uprising of an evil deity.... I would like to at least be carrying something other than a wooden stick with a leather grip!

Sure, at lower levels, I am totally fine with that feel, because it makes sense. At upper levels, after we have invested hundreds of hours of time logged onto our character, I would think that the option to have an "epic" (forgive the use of the word, but you understand where I'm coming from) looking piece of weaponry in my grip is borderline required for such an advanced (graphically and in terms of mechanics) single-player RPG.

Only for daggers and they were not sure about letting this like that.
