Unique Enchantments Useful Due to Patch 1.9?

Post » Sun Mar 24, 2013 6:56 pm

Do you think that unique artifacts will become more popular due to the introduction of the legendary system? Here's my point. Many individuals put a ton of work into minimizing spell costs without wanting to waste perk points. Now that there is no limit to perk points, as well as magicka, health, and stamina, will players start using equipment with unique effects instead?

I for one may start using artifacts now, as I can achieve similar results through perks. Damage is a non issue for me, spell costs will also be a non-issue, and I already have a maxed out natural magic resistance. However, regardless of how high my enchanting is, there are artifacts that fill a certain niche that neither enchanting nor perks could ever fill.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I'd be using Auriel's Bow a lot more if it's enchantment wasn't bugged so it wasn't effected by my skill in Restoration and enchantments.

I'm unlikely to swap my gear for things with unique enchantments because I don't like the look of runes on the enchanted weapons. Might swap around my armor, but I still think you should be able to craft (unenchanted) faction armor after completing the appropriate questline.

As of late, the only unique weapons I use regularly are Auriel's Bow and Dawnbreaker. Most everything else ends up on a wall.

I don't think so actually. The unique enchantments on artifacts have too low of a magnitude to be useful once you reach a high level. Using legendary to boost your level higher makes them even more obsolete. In the end people will just use them based on aesthetics, just like before. Be

I'm referring to unique enchantments, not generic ones. IOW, enchantments that are currently impossible to replicate, but are ignored in favor of magic cost reduction, damage increases, etc.

For example, if we can theoretically increase health infinitely, then why have health enchants?

Also, I'm largely referring to armor. As far as I'm concerned, there will never be a good unique weapon, aside from possibly Auriel's Bow for vampires.

Which armors do you think people would use over a custom enchanted set? There are a couple of good unique rings, Aetherial Crown/Shield, and maybe the Ebony Mail, but other than that I can't name any pieces of unique armor that are worth using over custom enchants.

Those unique enchantments are usually self-capped and not reliant on player modifiers. So... no, I guess.

The Solstheim DP masks, Ahzidal's armor set, Miraak's Robes (which can apparently be triggered several times per second via spells, as well as some of your own spells), Konahrik (still wouldn't use it, though), the Aetherial items, etc.

Again, many of these items have enchantments that are impossible to match through other means, and with the cap on health, stamina, magicka, etc. removed, many previously useful enchantments would be rendered unnecessary.

So... it would totally unbalance the game and trash the RPG experience? That seems to be in line with where this franchise has been going lately.

...no. What I'm saying is that as certain stats get higher, certain enchantments become less useful. This would naturally give certain unique enchants a place because they could remain relevant, regardless of level.

For example, health enchantments wouldn't matter much once you get 800 health, even if enemies could hit you for tons of damage. However, a unique enchantment that affects gameplay MAY still have an impact, despite not having a very large one earlier on in the game.

At that point I think most players would opt for self-made fortify marksman/onehanded gear just to make fighting high levelled enemies easier. Besides there wasn't actually any need to wear enchanted items in the first place to make the game manageable/easy. Most unique enchantments don't scale or have a high enough strength to make them worth using even if they're one of a kind. Why wear Miraak's robes when you can reach nearly 100% magic resistance and absorption in vanilla skyrim? You'd also need to grind a lot (e.g. get hundreds of extra magicka points) to make enchantments like cost-reduction redundant; it'll be unlikely that legendary skills will change preferences much.

I'm not so sure. Remember that their will be perks that reduce magicka cost. Miraak's Robes aren't powerful due to the spell absorption. It's powerful due to the tentacle burst, which has been reported to proc as much as five times per second. I just have a feeling that very high level characters would no longer have any need for enchantments (other than chaos, but weapons are a different story altogether). Perhaps fortify one handed, archery, etc, but that's it. Players can already get weapons to insane damage without cheating, so I could even see them passing that up. I know I do. With possibly over 1000 magicka and every reduction perk, spell cost reduction enchants may simply become unneeded (again, not until a higher level). I could see vampires going for stamina regen for convenience.

Of course, I might be wrong. From the looks of it, people may simply stick with their existing armor. My point being is that certain unique enchants may retain their value at super high levels, whereas custom enchants may not.

Custom enchantments will always be superior. It's one of the few remaining methods to actually create a character who you identify with, after all.

Honestly what I think would be nice is Being able to take ANY enchantment from ANY weapon or armor. A select few items in game you cant take the enchantment off. I understand its a Deidric artifact or a speacial weapon/armor. But still, Its my game, if i want that enchantment on a different weapon or armor it should be my choice. I also like the look of a lot of the weapons and armor but they already have an enchantment on them. I would like to be able to have any armor or weapon enchantment free so I can put my own enchantments on them. I have also notices specific enchantments from past games are starting to dwindle into none existance, Kind of sad honestly.

DawnBreaker is a good example of a unique item I had been using but finally stored it when I enchanted my own Dragonbone sword which is the only one I've found that could beat my Elven Sword of Dread. Since I like to one-hand and shield now the only artifact I use is SpellBreaker due to its properties and Azura's Star and I don't expect that to change. So most of the artifacts have become passe BUT I can see a point where the character gets so powerful that I start pulling artifacts out just to play with them for a change, in that I can see Necrovamp's point.
So I would have to give the OP a nod. Why use maxed out everything when you can add a little variety to your character's life. Heck I might even go to heavy armor and the Bloodskaal blade for a change just to see what a bad a** I can be with that even though it's not my preference or since I've got the Deathbrand armor picking up Soulrender and Bloodscythe and using them for a change. The sky is the limit when you have the ability to remake your character's image.

I guess I'm trying to look at things from a mathematical point of view. A health enchant of sixty points would have a lot of weight if your health is at 100. It would have very little if it's at 1000+. I'm not even talking about mixing things up, but rather that certain popular enchantments would slowly become meaningless, whereas some unique enchantments wouldn't change, or they would become more relevant.

Taking things to an extreme, let's say your character has 9000+ health. One might start using Konahrik because it has the ability to fully heal you. The only other thing that can do that is a potion, IIRC. At such a point, Konahrik might actually have a use (I know, it's a stretch). However, even a 200 point health enchant would be almost a drop in the bucket compared to your health meter.

I do agree about the guild armor, however. No matter how I look at it, that Nightingale armor was made useless. Which is a shame.

Ah! Now that does make sense. Yeah why go out of your way to use certain enchantments which are no longer necessary. I see your reasoning there and it IS sound. Not only health and stamina but also Magicka, why carry rings or necklaces, circlets that deal with fortify or even Mage robes for that matter if you have a character with thousands of magicka to spend. Koharnik would be a good example then on the health side of it. This really opens up the possibility of using formerly underpowered artifacts when it is no longer necessary to always have to have the "Best and most powerful". This in turns gives you more RP options as your characters self-esteem/ego rises and he becomes increasingly powerful and more disdainful of his enemies.

Can I get some feedback on this

Also on a side note when is that patch suppose to happen? I would like to max out my character so I can test a few different things, mostly involving Deadric artifacts.

If you're on console it is supposed to be available (Hopefully) sometime this month. If on PC the Beta patch for it is already available on Steam.

My point is several enchantments are in the game, and several of those cant be unenchanted, Mostly Deadric weapons/armor, or random legendary weapons/armor. Also a lot of the weapons or armor people would like to use because of look have an enchantment that they wish wasn't on it so they could put there own enchantment on it, be it faction based or a legendary weapon/armor.

The Dark Brotherhood has a set of the normal armor you get from them that is enchantment free. So for anyone in that role you can use that armor with your own enchantments.
